Would You Let Your Kid(s) Watch South Park?

I think we tend to overestimate adults.

yes
from birth

Well, it did come on in August of 1997, so it’s ten years, with 11 seasons.

I do feel old, so I’m going to be picky.

No South Park, Simpsons or Family Guy here. Our kids are 11 and 9. FWIW I stopped watching the Simpsons years ago, when we moved overseas, and since then the bits I’ve seen haven’t been particularly funny. Not that they’ve ever asked to watch any of those, so it’s not really come up as a topic.

So here’s a weird one.

Past a certain age, they will still be officially disallowed from watching such TV–but I won’t actually care if they do watch it. They just won’t know that.

This is because what is valuable in certain shows relies on its being subversive. If the family is sitting around the TV enjoying South Park together, then South Park is no longer worthwhile to watch.

Does this make sense to anyone?

(What I’ve said depends on my particular circumstance in that it’s based on what I imagine my own family will be like once my kids get to be that age. YMMV)
