Hmmm. If the 10% was good for everything, and then I could sell items to make a profit… sure! Could I make it my little toe on the left foot though? It doesn’t do anything but get caught on stuff anyway, so I figure if it’s going to get ripped off, it may as well be for a good cause… * * * \<\< My favorite color is chocolate. \>\> ---

Jerry Garcia managed to be a pretty good guitar player with half a finger missing (bottom half of his right middle finger), but I’m not a great player and I wouldn’t risk it. And that’s just a glib reason. ---

How can someone have the bottom half of his finger missing? Is the top half just floating there? That would be kind of cool, actually. As to the OP? Ten percent? Hells no! ---

I’d lose the left little finger for 10%. It’s a uselss digit. Tell ya what, I’d trade in 8 of my toes for another 10%. I don’t use those either (I only occasionally use the big toes to pick up objects or push buttons on things out of hand-reach.). ---

I would definately lose both of my pinkies for the 20% deal. I mean, I don’t use them to type or anything. Actually, right now I don’t have a functional spacebar so I’m poking the hole with a screwdriver after every word. Think about it. 10% or even 20% may not seem like much if you’re buying, say, a candy bar. But what about that $100,000 house you have your eye on? Wouldn’t it be great to shave off an extra $10 or $20k? ---

No way. I make money playing the piano - making $150 at a wedding this very Saturday, actually, and about half of my meager college-student-income comes from my piano students. I need those pinkies, and all the fingers in between. Oh yeah, and I kinda like playing the piano. That too. ---

The re-sale thing is pointless for a hypothetical exercise. Otherwise, we’d just ask whether you would lose a finger for limitless amounts of money, which is a patently stupid question. I’d love to come to all sorts of conclusions about the materialism of american society, given the greater willingness generally shown by US Dopers to lose a finger for material gain. But that would be equally stupid. ---
