I love turkey breast on soft white bread with good old French’s yellow mustard. Some chips and sweet gherkins on the side, and a deviled egg, if there are any left. A much loved Thanksgiving tradition.

Hell yes! - but there’s a tragic story behind it.

Having scored a year’s worth of the best mustard in the world ([Violette de Brive](http://www.denoix.com/our-violet-mustard/la-moutarde-violette-de-brive.html)) which I actually went to Brive la Gaillarde to buy, I was told by my consultant that I was no longer allowed any red or processed meats. Five jars of mustard heaven and no (traditional) meats to garnish with it. So now I’ll put it on anything; or, if I’m desperate for a fix, eat it straight from the jar.

Strawberries with mustard? Mmmmm…

Well, I wouldn’t do it, but if YOU like it, go for it. I am eternally baffled as to why people are so concerned with what _other_ people put on \*their \*plate.

Who’s your consultant? Because if it’s just a spouse or something, I’d tell them to go blow.

No, consultant as in Doctor. Is this one of those US/English English things?

Medical reasons. _Sigh_

I could go either way. They each produce a distinctly different sandwich, but either are still good.

What’s strange is that someone else cares what and how you eat and they have such a strong opinion about it that they have to express it to you.

Poor you ☹

Usually, doctors are just called doctors here. You might hear Americans say “my cardiologist” or “my pediatrician” or whatever, but mostly it’s doctor.

When you said consultant, I thought you might be playfully referring to an overly concerned spouse.

But even with doctors, I tend to shrug them off when they try to forbid me something I really want. If all I can eat is chia seeds and green leafy vegetables, I’d rather die sooner than later.

It depends on the mood. Sometimes I use mayo and sometimes mustard. I am also in agreement with my friends Broomstick and DCnDC. It baffles me when people need to decide for all of us what food and how to serve it is proper. Fix your turkey sandwich the way you like it. Ketchup on a hot dog? I wouldn’t eat it but if that’s your pleasure then go for it. You want to slather a well done steak with Heinz 57 sauce? Go right ahead.

I am sure that I eat things that some might find odd. I don’t apologize for it. I just eat my peanut butter and yellow mustard on wheat bread sandwich and mind my own business.

I love condiments. On a turkey sammich I could use mayo, mustard (we have at least a dozen varieties), barbecue sauce, horseradish, etc.

[I know what](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_404#Substatus_codes), but I don’t know why.

Perhaps it’s 404.21 - Bad condiment combination

**Ají de Gallina** and **panache45** have got the right idea – a mustard-mayo mix works great with turkey (and pretty much all deli meat really).

The trick is proportions. Can’t abide mustard with turkey? Cool, leave it off.

Some mustard with turkey sounds OK, but you’re totally used to mayo? Just dab a little mustard on top of your mayo and spread it around. Mayo does a good job “carrying” mustard, so it’s easy to spread a few drops of mustard evenly this way.

IMHO, quality of mustard barely matters. From $1,000/liter Maille Chablis down to the store-brand electric yellow stuff. Well, the good stuff is the good stuff, yes, but the cheap stuff can still at least lend that tart/vinegary note.

I don’t like most condiments and would literally not eat mayonnaise unless I was under threat of bodily harm. However, based on the thread title I though it was strictly going to be a yes / no and I would conceivable put hot sweet mustard on a turkey sandwich.

I feel similarly, but not quite as extreme. To me, mayo is acceptable on a turkey sandwich, but pointless because it does nothing to enhance the flavor. For white meat that isn’t all that flavorful mustard would be a real improvement. I’ll also eat mayo on a BLT. Otherwise mayo is only an ingredient, not a condiment.
