My right hand easily. Deformed pinkie from a childhood break that healed badly. Left hand tougher from the back. Looking there is a distinct pattern of old age spots but not sure if I was aware of the specific pattern before I looked. Front side a scar from another childhood injury - “borrowed” my dad’s saw to try to build something and sliced vertically under my thumb. That I’d recognize
Definitely. When I was younger, I had nice enough hands, with long, slim fingers, that I was told several times that I should be a hand model. Now that I’m older, I have distinctively swollen knuckles and veins.
About the video posted above by GuanoLad, could anyone give a brief description for those of us who don’t care to watch videos?
It’s a clip from the excellent (honestly one of my favorite shows across multiple years) British comedy panel show Taskmaster. Five comedians/actors are given silly tasks to complete in a semi-faux-competition (the competition isn’t scripted, but the actual winner isn’t the point) which are filmed separately for each contestant then later graded in studio with assorted comedic banter.
In this one each contestant had a hand photographed at the beginning of the competition. Later it is posted in a room with thousands of other hand photos and they have to ferret out which is theirs. There are multiple ways to figure out tasks and lateral thinking is often rewarded (also occasionally punished if that is funnier).
Ja, I am in the same camp, with a few more scars on my left hand (fencing - the sport, misuse of a chisel in woodworking class, misuse of a very sharp knife as a child, misuse of a cactus as a drunk teenager, several more that I can’t remember…) but almost certainly I could pick my hands from a line-up.
That’s quite an assortment, scudsucker! The fencing scar(s) would make a great story, I’ m sure.
Mine are similarly unusual: a bite from a Guinea pig (took 8 sutures), a flaming marshmallow that landed on the back of my hand, and a big piece of pencil lead from my brother stabbing me in the palm. Throw in a few football scars and there would be little doubt.
Sadly, not. I fence right-handed, and my less able opponent tried a move called a “ballestra” which is a quick approach and lunge. I parried, and her foil hit the base of my left-hand ring finger (typically, the left arm is carried curved upright towards the back of your head). We were fighting saber, a style variation that allows hits on the entire upper body, so her move was legal.
I hid it from my mother, who was the coach, and did not seek any medical attention, as you do as a young male.
This eventually led to a situation when the wound scabbed over, but also alamingly started to look green. Not, as a self-identified physician such as my teenage self, this worried me too much, I figured that if it did not smell, it was fine.
I simply taped it together with my middle finger so mobility was a bit limited, and went on with life. Now I am older, and (very) slightly wiser, i would probably made different choices.
My left palm has an interesting scar where i cut myself with a V-shaped tool while making a linoleum cutting. But it’s not very visible any more. I think I’d be focusing more on the overall shape and texture. But yeah, if that scare was visible in the photo it would be definitive.
My ring finger on my left hand is permanently disfigured. I smashed it on something and it swoll up on the finger side of my wedding ring. After the swelling didn’t go down for a while, I went to the ER and the doctor was able to get it off without cutting, but it won’t lay flat.
I think I might be able to pick out my right palm, especially if the photo were good enough to show my fate line in pretty good detail. And I might have an outside chance of picking out the back of my left hand thanks to a scar on my thumb that I got in elementary school, but it would again need to be sufficiently detailed, because it’s not exactly the gnarliest scar around.
I have a swan-neck fracture on the ring finger of my right hand due to an on-farm accident as a child. It’s not unique, well maybe the scarring is, but it’s certainly recognisable. Left hand, not so much.
