Hmmmmm… I guess its time to visit my parents in Cleveland. Oh, and while I’m up there I guess I can swing by Sandusky and go to Cedar Point. 🙂 I have so many fond memories of that place. I would go at least twice a summer when I lived up in Cleveland. My favorite of all times? The BLUE STREAK!!! ---

Hell yeah! I’m going to be there May 16 - 18, the 3rd weekend the park is open. I already got reservations and everything. It’s going to be sooooo sweet. One of my few obsessions is roller coasters, and there is no better place to find roller coasters than Cedar Point. ---

In a frickin’ _second_. Coincidentally enough, the highest roller coaster I’ve ridden to date was also at Cedar Point (I went to Oberlin, and we used to make day trips): the Magnum XL200, I believe it was called. It was half that size, and the tallest and fastest in the world at the time. It was _awesome_; I can’t even _imagine_ the rush from this new one. Clearly, Cedar Point is _way_ ahead of the curve in the roller-coaster game. If I lived anywhere near it, I’d be there in a Sandusky minute. ---

I love big coasters…once they get over that first hill. Apparently I’m somewhat afraid of heights. Oh, smaller coasters like the Blue Streak or the Gemini don’t bother me. Heck, my brother and I got stuck three-fourths of the way up the hill on the Mantis, and we sat for a good five minutes before they got it started again, and I was merrily waving at folks below. But supercoasters…wow. I think it’s the proportion. The gigantically tall hills look far too spiderwebby and thin to support their own weight. Riding the first hill on the Millenium Force is a queasying experience. It takes so LONG. My brain KNOWS it’s safe, dammit, but my stomach’s telling me that one good strong gust of wind will cause the fragile reinforced steel girders to snap like twigs, and the whole hill will collapse like a pile of pick-up-sticks, leaving us passengers to plummet to our horrible untimely deaths into Lake Erie, which from up here looks every bit as polluted as its reputation. Great. If I don’t die from the fall, by impalement on a steel girder, or by drowning, I can look forward to mutated body parts. By this point I’m determinedly staring at my shoes and waiting for the chain lift to be over, c’mon, 30 more feet, hurry up, darnit, 20, c’mon, I’m gonna throw up if this part isn’t over soon, 10 all right here we go now, here we gooooAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! It’s worth it. Once the train starts downhill, it’s, well, all downhill. Nausea’s gone, what a cure! Airtime and extra Gs and pure speed. Loved it so much, I get back in line for a second trip. Oh me of little memory. And I keep my eyes squinched shut for the whole first hill, pondering how long it would take barf to hit the ground from 300 feet, and if it would kill someone below if it landed on their head. (insert brother’s chicken clucking noises here.) So would I ride the Top Thrill Dragster? Sure. With my face buried in my hands, probably…and if you’re on the ground watching, bring an umbrella. A good strong one. ---

I wouldn’t ride a roller coaster that was four feet high. I wouldn’t ride a roller coaster of any height. You roller coaster guys are all stark raving mad. ---

I remember when the Magnum XL200 scared the bejeebus outta me, too. It was only a year old at the time. I didn’t think a coaster could get any better than that. Wow. I’m there. I hate lines. I will wait in line all day. I don’t care. I will be there. Yeah. ---
