Compromise. Rake the leaves but do a half-assed job.
Where I live, we spell rake, "w i n d’.
I always cringe at the thought of hauling off leaves, great compost, great source of carbon.
It can be too much of a good thing though. I mulch and leave grass clippings all year. But oak leaves are poor compost and take 10 years to break down. The tannic acid (iirc) makes for bad compost. The rest of the leaves that I have at least are excellent however. Though again the maple leaves are too much of a good thing for me. So once a year they go out to the street for collection.
I chop mine up with the mower and direct them around the bottom of the very trees that dropped them. Free mulch.
