Would you take a bullet for your SO?

My wife’s life is worth a lot more than mine is. Yes.

Clearly, you haven’t met my ex-girlfriend. If you asked her the question, I’d be toast. And she wouldn’t even have to think about it.

Edit: I would still have taken one for her, any day. Still would, now. Not saying that makes me a better person. Just a deader one. Heck, I can follow her logic: If we both agree that her life is worth more than mine, what’s the conflict here?

Depends on the circumstances. But assuming he didn’t cause the bullet to be fired in our direction, yes.

oh absolutely!! This is kind of the ideal situation really. (I mean after nobody shooting at us and everybody living and just having ice cream). We’ve always been kind of operating on the default assumption of him dying first (he comes from short lived stock and has already had two heart attacks at age 42, while all my forebears live past 95 despite smoking and drinking).

In this scenario the children finally appreciate me because A) I am gone and they actually notice they miss me and B) I saved their most beloved father.

He is a thousand times more able to provide for them and he will finally notice that there are no actual laundry fairies.

I’ve always wanted to die while looking fabulous and making people think well of me, so this will do nicely.

Questions like these make me glad I don’t have an SO.

For one of my kids, yes. For a partner, No. That’s hypothetical as I don’t have a partner but if I did get one they would be in second place behind the kids.

It was a long time ago, with an SO i broke up with 20 years ago
but we had been together for 7 years or so at the time
and I’m ashamed to admit it
but NO
I ducked behind a car while he stood there arguing with the jerk.
However, if he had shut his mouth when I told him to we wouldn’t have had a gun pointed at us.

How about a .22 moving at extremely slow speed?

This, for pretty much the same reasoning.

I’ve been in a situation which almost escalated into someone getting killed, and your focus really narrows down. The reptile part of your brain takes over. You know that adage about flight or fright? Yup.

While I’d love to play the Internet Tough Guy[sup]TM[/sup] I hope I would have that much capacity to think or feel anything more than the basic survival.

I do think that it’s much more likely to instinctively take the bullet for a kid. There’s been a couple of times that the daddy grizzly bear instinct got kicked in.

This is great. We may as well close the thread. Why not the whole IMHO, since we are only giving opinions, instead of facts.

That’s just your opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:
