# Would you use a Lamborghini to run errands?

One of the things I love about Texas is that it is “stupid rich”, a place that flaunts its wealth in gaudy and idiotic ways, far worse than anything I saw in Atlanta. But even used to seeing people purchase $50k cars casually and spending 4 figures on a child’s birthday sleepover, yesterday was truly something special.
I was at La Cantera, the outdoor Galleria Mall in San Antonio, sitting in my truck, when a woman pulls up. She was driving a six-figure Lamborghini, a brand-new new car, and gets out of it to walk into… Hobby Lobby.
Loved it.
So, and please don’t fight the hypothetical\*, if you had a six-figure Lamborghini, would you use it to run errands?
\*Assume that the same magical process that gave you this vehicle is also going to pay for standard upkeep and gasoline and insurance above what you currently pay, (so if you currently pay $3k/yr in vehicle maintenance and gas, you will still pay the same. It’s only the additional amount that will be paid for you). Also, you will be responsible for any deductible in case of accidents. If you don’t like Lamborghinis, substitute another car in your imagination.

Absolutely, Assuming my version of an errand to Hobby Lobby might be a trip to a store that caters to an activity that’s fun for me.
If the errand was not pleasurable I’d rather have my driver do the driving. ; )

If you’ve got it, drive it. I used to belong to a health club with a member who would drive his Lambo to play racquetball.
If I had an antique one-of-a-kind car, I might be more judicious about when to drive it. Damage could go beyond expensive and be irreparable.

I would use for anything that doesn’t require publicly parking anywhere. It’s only a matter of time before someone dings your door or just flat-out vandalizes it.

That’s my position. Go flying down the highway in the nothing that is Junction, TX to El Paso? No problem. Taking it out on a track up near Austin and pushing it for what it (and I) are worth? All weekend long.
Going through the McDonald’s drive through? I respect the car too much for that.
This one was also quite low… not too sure if it would make it over some of the speed bumps found in this city.

Vacation trip?
Just because?
Picking someone up?

Of course I would. If I have a cool/fun car, I prefer to drive that car around town - on short errands - whatever. Also longer trips.
For bad weather (snow/ice), then I would want to take whichever car was safest driving in those conditions. AWD, studded tires, heated mirrors, etc.

I drive a Cobra on routine errands around town, and park it anywhere convenient. Never had the slightest issue except attracting a crowd when I’m in a hurry.

The problem is that these supercars are not designed for inching through parking lots and cruising down side streets at 23 miles an hour. They’re designed for screaming down open road at 90 miles an hour.
If you want that feeling of getting pushed back in your seat as you rocket out of the Walmart parking lot any decent high-end sedan will do the job better than an exotic sports car. If you really want to feel the acceleration from 0 up to 23 then a Tesla is the way to go since electrics have the advantage in low-speed torque.

If I could afford to own and drive one, why wouldn’t I use it for everyday tasks?
Actually, one reason I might not is that most ‘supercars’, from what I understand, are terribly uncomfortable and just plain annoying to “drive around town”; they’re really only tolerable when driving them in ‘supercar mode’…on a track, or on a lonely road somewhere where you can really let the car unwind.
So I guess I might not use one to run errands, but if I didn’t the reason would not be “because it’s an expensive car”, but rather “because the Subaru is so much more functional for going to Costco”.

I used to work for a guy with a Countach. He would only occasionally drive it to work, if the weather was great and he was in the mood. Most of the time he just drive his BMW, but the Lambo was for certain, cool-car days (I guess). He would park it on the top of the parking garage, where it would always attract a crowd (everyone on that side of the building could see the car splayed across multiple spaces- in a mostly empty top level, anyway).

A coworker of one of my brothers’ owns several luxury and vintage cars; while he normally uses a “boring” car, if he happens to be driving one of the fancy ones when he remembers he needs to pick up something from the grocery store he doesn’t go change cars.

Of course I’d use my Lamborghini to run errands. But only if my chauffeur is too busy waxing my Bentlys to break away.
