NEW DEVELOPMENT: The _Bangkok Post_, the bigger of Thailand’s two English-language dailies, turns 69 years old on August 1. It’s become traditional for them to issue a T-shirt each year for purchase by staff. I’ve seen this year’s shirt, and it says (I’m not making this up): we’ve been doin’ (it for) _69_ (years) ---

I did not see anyone actually wearing this, but someone must be buying them. Earlier this month, I saw a sidewalk clothing vendor in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand selling T-shirts that read: FUCK LOUD MAKE NOISE ---

Hell no, I wouldn’t wear it, and I wouldn’t wear a shirt that says “I LOVE DICKS” either. I saw a picture of some dude whose shirt was talking about muff-diving - I can’t remember the exact turn of phrase but it was raunchy - walking hand in hand with his maybe 8 YO old daughter. I just…ugh. ---

That jogs my memory of another shirt I spotted here in Thailand. This was in the late 1980s. Tak province, on the border with Burma. Some village smack in the middle of nowhere. Among the villagers was a little girl, couldn’t have been more than five years old. And she was wearing a shirt that said, in English: “Itty-Bitty Titty Committee.” I declined to tell the villagers what it said. Fortunately no one asked. ---

At one time I had the volunteer job at our Synod of going through loads and loads of clothing sorting out damaged stuff and stuff someone could think inappropriate like that. Some came through donation bins but some from makers - overstocks, seconds and the like. All were basically destined for _Third World_ countries. One I remember was several shirts (maybe a dozen?) in a child’s medium or so that read “Don’t touch what you can’t afford”. Those went in the rag/recycle pile. :smack: ---

I was in Pattaya this week and saw some for sale that said: “Never cry – just say ‘fuck you’ and smile.” Didn’t buy one though. Googled the phrase and was surprised to learn it’s a well-known saying. Never heard it before.
