Would you work if you didn't have to?

F**K no, I wouldn’t work.

I’d volunteer somewhere, though. Like a home for wayward cats, or something.

Seriously, people who win the lottery and stay at their job seem to me severely lacking in creativity. It’s either go to work or watch tv all day? I like my job and my coworkers, but there’s many many things I would rather do with my time.

dutchboy, I knew that was coming!

What would I do if I didn’t have to work and had the money? I’d catch the first plane out of Kansas to some lonely tropical beach in the South Pacific. I’d lay in a hammock all day and drink margaritas until the sun went down. I’d swim and fish and hike and eat and do everything that a person who is totally happy would do. I’d live in a little bungalow overlooking the sea if I could. Hopefully I’d have the boyfriend with me even though he is petrified of planes. I’d carve little wooden tikis and kayak around my island and make friends with the locals and never see a high-rise or a 6 lane highway ever again. Thats my ideal life.

And here I sit in 38-degree F. little Kansas 1000 miles from the nearest beach.

I’ve been unemployed for six months now and the only reason I’m even looking for work is because I need money to live. If given a free $100,000 a year, I’d never work a day in my life again. I might not be the best person when it comes to money but I’m not *that * expensive either.

I worked way too hard to give up my RN license for a 100,000.00.
I would, however, go per deim and/or take a travel assignment…babies deliver everywhere! I wouldn’t want to lose my skills and** Drachillix** would likely be happy anywhere I was as long as he had a laptop.

Things would happen in this order…

  1. Sell or give away almost everything.

  2. Set up direct deposit for the remaining money.

  3. Rent an apartment in Sint Maarten.

  4. Buy a plane ticket.

  5. Never EVER shovel fecking snow again.

For $100,000/year, I’d keep working, if only because that’s not quite a hedonistic salary, and my job would make a decent suppliment to the “win.” Plus it’d allow me to keep my technical skills up-to-date, which is always a good thing to have.

Now, if we’re talking $1,000,000/year…

No WAY would I work for wages if I didn’t have to. My dream is to spend my time in front of the computer (or the stove) writing fantastic freelance articles (or concocting fantastic gourmet meals).

Work just gets in the way.

I would probably take some language classes (Japanese, German, a few others) and only intermittent computer science classes that I think I need instead of all of them. I’d continue to work because I enjoy programming and figuring things out and well I might leave the customer support to someone else. I’d probably invest a lot of the money that I got into my buisness.

I’d continue to write. I might move to some place in Europe where the cost of living would be pretty low.

So, I wouldn’t change too much. I just redesigned the website for my buisness http://www.sparkgameservers.com/index.php and I know I have fun analyzing something and then trying to make it better.

Ditto for me. Or do volunteer work for various organizations, depending on how much money I won.
D’ya hear that, Powers that Be? I deserve to win!

Oh man. I’d:

Move back to Austin

Buy a big house. Customize the bajeesus out of it.

Kick my reptile rescue into high gear (due to limited space, there’s a limit to how many snakes I can have at a time). Be able to accept rescues from all over the country (“What, there’s an abused snake in Seattle? Be there in 2 days.”)

Vacation somewhere new once or twice a year.

On 100k, that’s probably all I’d be able to afford, hehe.

Oops. Got too excited at the money, and forgot to answer the question.

I don’t work now, and have no problem filling my time. But I wouldn’t go BACK to work. Screw dying my hair black and removing piercings/covering tattoos.

The Cody? I dunno. He might need a part time job. He doesn’t loathe working as much as I do.
