WoW Cataclysm coming soon

Another question for the Betas…Did the loot tables change mechanics? As I mentioned in the other thread, I was in VOA25 with no priests, so what should drop but 2 Priest pcs! And we see it a lot more in Heroics (since it’s harder to hit all the classes with only 5 players) but gear drops that intended for a particular class only to not have that class in the party.

I gotta say I love that quote in your spoiler winterhawk.

I haven’t done VoA in the Beta yet (and honestly probably won’t, since there aren’t any new bosses AFAIK), but I would be very surprised if they made any changes to the loot table. I think it would be too hard to do, given that the loot table is generated for an instance when you first zone in–so what would happen if you zoned a group in with no priests, but then a couple of people had to leave and you picked up a couple of priests to replace them before the pull? The potential drops wouldn’t recalibrate on the fly, so those priests would be out of luck for loot.

I always thought loot was generated when the boss was killed? I haven’t read anything official either way, but that was one of the general beliefs going into the game back in 2004 – one of the ways in which WoW differed from its predecessors (loot randomly generated upon opening of the corpse, instead of pre-determined and exploitable).

I have, long time ago. Go look up “joke”. And I don’t say that we built Stormwind, I say that part of the repairs have been done by our stonemasons, which is perfectly compatible with the Defias (who are still owed money, too).

Hmm, I had heard it was when the mob spawned (which for instances, as far as I know, is when you zone in).

I’ve *never *heard that, and I’ve read a *lot *that says that loot tables are generated when the mob spawns. Unfortunately, I can’t search to verify from work, 'cause I can’t get to any of the usual resources (official forums, WoWWiki, WoW Insider).

After further googling:

Loot is determined on spawn. (Blue post linked in article)

Huh. Ignorance fought

How is the new secondary profession (archaeology I think)? It looked, from the descriptions, like it would be ball-breakingly necessary to skill up in order to play the game at all properly at high levels.

There isn’t much of it in the game yet–there are trainers, but they don’t teach you anything yet. I think they’re still working on it.

I was highly amused, though, to discover that the archaeology trainer in Orgrimmar (whom you talk to in order to get the breadcrumb quest to Uldum if you’re Horde) is a blood elf in a white suit and hat, named “Belloc Brightblade.”

Really? Because the Archeology I’ve read about wouldn’t affect PvE or PvP gameplay at all–it would be entirely achievements, titles, and vanity items.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen so far, that’s true. Way back when, it was supposed to be related to the whole “Path of the Titans” thing, but they scrapped that.

Yes, my WAG is that **Jragon **was thinking of Path of the Titans. That was the one that seemed like it was going to tie in more with gameplay, although it’s been so long now since they ditched it that I can’t remember details.

So, something I’ve been wondering as I level my fifth character through Outland - did they change the old-world (and possibly outland, I don’t know if anyone in the playtest server will even bother going there) dungeons so that they have maps like the Northrend dungeons do? That would be oh-so-awesome.

I looked up Archaology and it’s not what I thought it was. Specifically I vaguely recall reading during the big reveal way back when that you’d be able to “buy” things with higher archaeology and they would modify or enhance your character’s abilities. It wasn’t Path of the Titans, but it’s possible they scrapped the original design for archaology too. Or I’m going bonkers.

All old dungeons will have in-game maps like the NR ones. I believe mmo-champion (or wowhead’s blog, or maybe both) posted images of them.

Ah yes, link here: Cataclysm Dungeon Maps, Siamat, Blue Posts - MMO-Champion

That sounds like Path of the Titans to me. Or maybe I’m going nuts. I’ll have to try to remember to look it up when I get home.

The archaeology trainers are now actively teaching it and there is a new detect icon called “points of interest” or some such, but there doesn’t seem to be any sites yet, at least in the areas I can reach (what, I’m trying to level up my highest-level Hordie so she can help get the Echo Isles back).

I submit that when…

Garrosh Hellscream is disgusted by your behavior, you’ve crossed the line, man, you’ve crossed the damn line.

Also, Isn’t it interesting how Sylvanus seems to be able to enforce loyalty to some degree? Despite raising numerous people who should be mortal enemies, and many more who at best would think of her as useless scum, and many more who wouldn’t give her the time of day… she somehow has total control of the Forsaken. Interesting, isn’t it? And very Lich King-ish… and she was once of his lieutenants and presumably had to power to command the undead herself, even free-willed undead.

Naught, naughty Sylvanus. You’re only a short step away from the Lgion’s minion or being the next wannabe Lich King yourself. Not that she’d appreciate that.

You know, I have no problem with the Horde gaining in some areas. Heck, there’s places where the Alliance shouldn’t be, period. But… the rest of the Horde. The Undead make my flamethrower trigger finger twitch, and the more I see of their quests and of how they leave any land they touch, the more I want a real nice big pipeline from an oil field. Finding yourself undead and wanting to stay, uh, unbreathing, fine with me, but their attitude is a cross between imperialism, I’ll-backstab-anybody-ism and those folks who think everybody should do and be exactly what they do and are (you know, those guys who got a gf so they want to pair everybody up, then they break up so everybody else should, then they get religion so they paper everybody else’s desks with Chick tracts).
