I liked The Right Stuff very much. I took a crack at Bonfire of the Vanities but it bored me. I’ve read some of his shorter pieces and they’re OK but didn’t grab me, either.

All this reminded me of Carol Doda, I thought she was still alive but turns out she died in 2015.
