Well, we’ve left - what a shit show - the ‘hosts’ didn’t even provide drinks. I’m totally confused - it was on a farm so it wasn’t even like the spot was amazing or they had a pool or a putting green they were offering in exchange for us buying them dinner. There were 12 people there times $8 each = $96 for a piece of meat that probably cost $40. Maybe it was a fundraiser. ??? ---

I am failing to understand why the OP didn’t just spit, turn around and leave. The spit target choices would be the host’s face, or the host’s shoes. Or at least ask for an explanation. FYI, you can now claim to be dehydrated and sue for damages. I don’t think normal people do this in Somalia, let alone Canada. ---

I’ve been to “rent parties”, gone willingly to help a friend with a couple bucks. But it was totally up front, I knew what the dealio was. Maybe its a language thing. Like the word “beer” in Canada means a frothy yellowish liquid, sort of half Coors, half pee… ---

Hope you didn’t have to stay too long either. So how exactly did the hosts tell you that you were expected to pay for the privilege of being their guests? Having co-hosted many a gathering at my brother’s farm (I invited my friends to his place, he invited his friends, everyone had a good time), I cannot see me or him hitting up any of our friends for money to be there. Most people brought their own beverages, some people also brought food, but there was always something provided to eat and drink. ---

Well I was there with my mum and it was her coworker hosting - I tried it talk her into leaving as soon as we discovered the whole pot-luck deal but we’d been spotted. We left directly after dessert - I’m sure they are talking about how rude we were still. :rolleyes: ---
