Edward. (I had to look it up.)

Anyway, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure for PSX is a fighting game based on a manga. There’s an adventure mode that lets you play through many of the scenarios in said manga. At one point, a stranger wants to bet you on which piece of meat a cat will go for first. Of course, there’s more to this than there seems to be: it’s the stranger’s cat, and he psychically knows which piece the cat will go for.

However, there’s a very remote chance that you’ll win the bet. It happened to me twice; the second time when my girlfriend at the time was watching and I had just said “Hey, watch this!”

> Inspired by the legends of the great heroes of light, at the start of the game, you kill the traitor Garland (who will knock you all down!). In order to purge the world of evil and the terrible Chaos fiend, you travel around and kill the elemental evils. Then you travel back in time, thus becoming the very heroes you read about! Garland, by combining with the power of the four elemental fiends, came back too, becoming the fiend Chaos, whom you set out to defeat. It’s a recursive temporal loop; these things have theorized and may actually be possible IRL!

I understand that; what really confused me was how, exactly, this led to world domination.
(Continuing with the spoiler boxes…)

If it’s a ‘recursive’ loop, then doesn’t that mean that each time it starts over, Garland/Chaos would have to defeat you again? Wouldn’t that get sort of tiring after a while?

Yep. He can’t win, ever. I’ve no idea how the Four Fiends managed to miss that one. Apparently, they’re just dumb.

I was playing Half Life 2 yesterday. I’m near the end of the game, on the part where the NPCs start helping you out. At one point, one of them randomly said “Sometimes, I dream about cheese.” 😕 I almost thought I was imagining things, but I just looked for that sound effect with the Hammer editor, and apparently it’s called vo/npc/male01/question06.wav

Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel has lots of hilarious dialog but these are my favorite WTF moments:
Occasionally when your chaseing after raiders you’ll find one cowering in the corner.
Occasionally you can kill raiders with one shot from your rifle.
Occasionally you can completely vaporize someone with your cleaver.
Ask Ruby the prostiitute if you can “sample her wares”. Hilarity ensues.

There’s a marine voiced by actor/comedian David Cross on Halo 2 and he has some weird and great one liners.

Like if you trade guns with him he says “sorry the handle is all… sweaty.”
or if you shoot a lot and miss he’ll say “yeah when i shoot my gun, i try to hit things”

THis was my favorite map in any of the HoMM games: the winning strategy involves massacring thousands upon thousands of peasants and raising them from the dead in an unstoppable army of skeletons. How freakin’ awesome is that? I giggled constantly through the thing.

In Final Fantasy 7…

Two of your characters have guns. Many enemies have guns, explosives…even the final boss has a spell that drops a PLANET on your head. Despite these deadly forms of firepower, characters can resist taking hits and live to tell about it, and even if they can’t, there are Life spells to bring them back for more. While this in itself is a WTF moment…why is it that this is commonplace, but all Sephiroth has to do to kill off Aerith for good is stab her in the back with his sword?

In the intentional category, in _Myth II: Soulblighter_: In one mission, you have a stealthy character who has to sneak into a castle to let the rest of your army in. You have to wait for a patrol to go out the side door, and sneak in before the door closes again. Well, if you wait by that side door, you hear the two door guards carrying on a conversation. One of them’s been saving up his money to buy the world’s biggest turnip.

On unintentional glitches, once, in one of the Mega-Man games, I was in a boss fight, and the boss and I apparently got in our last hits at the same time. You could actually see Mega-Man starting to explode… Except he didn’t just disappear from the center of the explosion like usual, he “beamed out” like he does when he wins, and I was able to go on to the next area.

Nice to know that S. Baldrick is getting video game roles 🙂

About the first one, I guess I’m just used to RPG’s where you get in long involved fights with every critter you stumble across.

:o About the second one, after thinking about it I realized that the raiders often take damage from “friendly fire” So the ones I killed with a single shot were probably already on death’s door. Not so WTF after all. :o

Another WTF moment from Fallout. Occasionally when you kill a raider he’ll say “Nice shot , man” then die.

[spoiler]This is a common misconception. During the battle the characters don’t die they are mearly rendered unconcious. Of course this doesn’t explain why the spell is called Phoenix Down or why characters using the life spell have a halo over their heads. :dubious:

Using a flying spell in **Daggerfall** and floating through the walls and levels of the dungeons…weird.

**Jurassic Park: Trespasser.** The entire game is a WTF?

I ccan’t believe this. If true, this is a whole wtf in itself. Remember, this is the game where characters get shot multiple times, hit by blazing fire, electric bolts, daggers of ice, cannons, grenades, and everything on up to orbital bambardment. We’re running into a logical impasse one way or another.

I don’t mind it being that way, particularly, but I wish they didn’t have the cutscene crap where bad stuff happens and you can’t do anything about it.

I don’t know if anybody remembers this game. I never played it myself, it would have scared the crap out of me. It did anyway, just watching my boyfriend play it.

It was called **Ecstatica**.

It was a first-person RPG type, I _think_. You see, there was a way to get metal armor. But it was supposed to be “realistic”, so the metal armor was VERY heavy for your character. So heavy, in fact…

That if you fell down with it on, you couldn’t get back up very easily. And if you didn’t get back up in time, this…ape, I think, would come along…and kill you. On the ground. And then hang you from a tree. It was very gruesome, the whole thing.

That was probably one of my biggest WTF? moments EVER.
