I remember getting my bare legs smacked with a palmetto switch when I was a kid. Guaranteed to make any little brat straighten up and fly right!
I like pimiento cheese, but only the savory kind. I never buy it because I don’t want to accidentally get that sweet party spread shit. It’s like the difference between mayonnaise and Miracle Whip.

There’s even debate here in the US as to whether it’s “pimento” or “pimiento” cheese. Both spellings are accepted, but in speech, I’ve only heard “pimento” used around here. (And I got the sense that **Northern Piper** , as I believe s/he’s from Canada if my memory is correct, is simply unaware of pim(i)ento cheese. I’m not sure its well known beyond our borders, and perhaps not known all that well in certain regions within our borders.)

I have that same reaction when looking at pimento cheese!!
Pimento cheese, olive loaf and that brown sandwich meat with the white rind on it! Southerners will eat anything. :dubious:

Yeah, the spelling is debatable. But, Palmetto was a little strange. The prices of each were about the same, I was thinking of looking at sugar content. Alas, no glasses.
As far as googling it, I didn’t get anything but the Palmetto state and the bush/tree thing. No food product I could see after a casual look. Plus, I wanted to bug you guys.🙂

I remember getting Kraft pimento cheese spread in little containers that turned into orange juice glasses. They don’t sell those any more, do they?

Interesting. Even though I live in the Palmetto State, attended Palmetto High School, and have spent time on Pawleys’ shore, I’ve never heard of this cheese. I have just looked on Wal-Mart. You can still get it in some stores. I don’t think I have ever purchased that.

Buy some of the Palmetto cheese on your next shopping trip. The Jalapeño is my favorite. It is not as good as my mom’s, but it is the best bought pimento cheese I have found. I’ve been buying it since they were a small company and you could only buy it at Pawleys Island.
