> Way to turn the other cheek, dude.

I don’t turn the other cheek all the time, that why there is the Pit, and why I don;t wear the damn bracelets. I got nothing against following the teachings of Christ, I think that if everyone followed the principles and morals of the man the world could be a better place. It’s not the question that’s the problem, it’s the bracelet.

The fact that these bracelets are flourescent pink, and yellow and whatever other can be flourescent means that they are meant to be seen, and they are because I wouldn’t be having this rant otherwise. Firstly it’s an advertisement of religion that I don’t want to be recieving every day. I go to a school that is predominantly Christian, heck I have to go to Chapel on Fridays for prayer. I don’t want to do it but I have to becuase the assembly and notices are announced at that time. The social feel of the school is Christian so, like has been said, to wear all this flashy stuff is to be in the “in crowd”. To wear it for such trashy reasons is an insult to those that believe in the faith IMO. If you need to be reassured every five minutes to follow Christ’s teachings then maybe, just maybe Christianity ain’t for you. If you are as committed to the faith as you should be then the principles you live your life by should become second nature.

As for making it a GQ, I would just have asked why WWJD emerged, where did it emerge from, how did it grow to be so popular etc. but I’m sure I would have had to say the words “fucking lameass wannabes”.

Other “christian” accessories that make me go “huh?”

[The Jesus Ring](http://www.family.org/resources/itempg.cfm?itemid=3580&sid=266&pid=0&pg=1)

[Jesus Rocks T-shirt](http://www.family.org/resources/itempg.cfm?itemid=4658&sid=576&pid=0&pg=1)

[Satan is bad, Jesus is Good, t-shirt](http://www.family.org/resources/itempg.cfm?itemid=4464&pid=0&sid=576)

And my favourite from the website [Praying is not a crime T-shirt](http://www.family.org/resources/itempg.cfm?itemid=3322&pid=0&sid=576) (_This distinctive T-shirt shows the world you’re not afraid to stand up for your beliefs at school, at the game, anywhere. Who knows? Your boldness may spark others to get radical for God._)

That website doesn’t have prices for items but “Suggested Donation” prices. Makes me wonder if I can get a Jesus Nail Ring for less then the “Suggested Donation”?

My absolute favorite is the juxtaposition of certain bumper stickers. For example, there are many cars running around with a Christian bumper sticker, such as what would jesus do, or the little picture of the fish. However, after 9/11 many of these cars also carry that “Power of pride” sticker that has the picture of the American flag.

This always gives me a huge laugh and solidifies my stance that the majority of highly religious people are admittedly, and uncaringly, hypocritical. I mean, think about, “power of pride” and “christ”. Let’s see…

1. One of the greatest sins is pride, Christ taught humility- Remember the woman who gave two pennies silently compared to the rich man who gave more loudly?

2. Blessed are the meek (not the powerful)

3. Blessed are the peacemakers (not those who advance their nation’s interests via war)

I could go on, but I am sure you get the point. I really honestly believe that if Christ came again, he would have a special smiting bat made just for the majority of American Christians who did not follow his advice to be humble, give away all that you owned and love one another as he had loved them. Sadly, they failed to realize that Christ was a Socialist.

Oh, **Euty** you should know that you don’t need grounds to start a lawsuit. Just ignorance and an obnoxious, know-it-all attitude.

If you were going to sue over a “God = Fake” T-shirt then it would probably be for something along the lines of offensive messaging. In case you didn’t guess IANAL.

I want to know where the hell nocturnal\_tick is where C’tian teens consider WWJD bracelets to be the in-thing. Hell, I haven’t seen any around for the past four years & they were all over the place at my church’s youth group back in the day?

Btw, vanilla, I saw a bit of Kirk Cameron’s “Way of the Master” evangelism method. It was even used in the video LEFT BEHIND II-TRIBULATION FORCE (worse than LBI except for an OK part with the Two Witnesses of Rev 11). We could get quite a discussion going on that!

I live on an island…seriously it’s called Britain.
You obviously don’t know anything about “fads” **FriarTed**. It doesn’t have to be new to be popular, it is simply the knowledge that you have what everyone else has. I don’t think there hasn’t been a new fad since the 60’s.

I think Pac Man, the Rubik’s Cube, and the Pet Rock would disagree.

There have been many. By definition, a fad lasts only a short time (“a passing fad”). The pet rock was certainly a fad, as was Rubik’s. (I wouldn’t say Pac Man was, because it’s been popular in one form or another for two decades.)

Many fads involve fashion, such as the “feathered” hairstyles that prevailed in the 80s. Plaid pants were a fad in the 70s. Parachute pants were a fad in the 80s.

Simply knowing that you have something no one else has doesn’t make your object a fad. It just makes you unique. A fad is enjoyed by many, many people, “sweeping the nation,” as it were.

So there. 😃

I’ve got no problem with WWJD. It’s a sentiment that many fundamentalist Christians don’t seem to echo.

Hell, I once had a “WWMD” keychain that a former Rabbi of mine gave me. It stood for “What Would a Mensch Do?” We reconstructionists are a crazy bunch, lemme tell you.

In my experience, the folks who wear the bubbly, kitschy stuff are pretty bubbly and well-meaning themselves. Nothing to get worked up over. Generally, if they aren’t trying to actively convert me I have no real problem with them.

Man, now my rant about wristbands is turning into a debate about fads. I didn’t mean to say that we don’t constantly have new items that turn out to be fads. I’m saying that those things are always of the same variety. Just like you said we had plaid pants, then parachute pants, then so on and so on. It’s a different product but with exactly the same concept: “I am wearing pants that everyone else is wearing therefore I am cool”
Now back to my rant: Grrrrrrrrr.
