**Guin** , I’m with you on the drowning them is sick bit, but not the “not caring if a coyote gets them” is sick bit.

Believe it or not, some people use animals for purposes other then companionship. A farm cat kept around to kill mice and such ain’t a pet, and I wouldn’t expect him to form any more of an emotional attachment to it then the cow that’s mixed in with the noodles in tonights hamburger helper entree.

No one is defending people who let their pets roam. We’re talking about people who go out of their way to torture animals to death, rather than just call animal control, or trap said animal and take it to the pound.

**Crafter\_Man** deliberately set traps for these animals, but rather than take them to the local shelter, he drove out to his uncles and dropped the cages in “a deep spot in his creek for 15 to 20 minutes”. That’s fucked up.

So far, the only thing I’ve really come out against is drowning them in a cage. I can understand killing a nuisance animal well enough, and I’d even consider it myself if the situation warranted it.

But drowning? **Machetero** , can you honestly say that you could trap a cat, drive to a family member’s house, and then plunge the cage into a stream to drown it to death? When you could just as easily have taken it to animal control? :dubious:

Maybe it’s just that he was upset about people who let their animals roam, so much that he went out and drowned any cat he could trap, but now he lets his animals roam, and doesn’t bother to make sure they’re cared for.

I’m not trying to be a **Crafter\_man** apologist here, he’s definately a screwball that should go on some kind of list…

But.

He too is a predator. The cat, in this example, is prey. It’s honestly not all that different than hunting a deer with a rifle (which is no better, I’ll never understand hunters).
Shoot a deer in the chest, and if your round goes through the lungs, the same drowning effect happens, only with blood, not water.

**Crafter\_man** is an example of how some of us in the gene pool have failed to make it to the deep end.

There are humane ways to keep an animal off your property. For example, there’s a local lady who’s hired to take her trained dog around to public parks that have too many geese. After a few times of the dog chasing the geese away, they get the message that they’re not wanted and don’t come back. There are many, many other deterrents out there, too, ones that will discourage them from returning.

Also, an animal has every bit as much a right to live as you do. Just what makes your interests so much more important?

So someone with a housecat, a beloved pet, a member of their family, accidently lets it get out, and these sick fucks murder it?

I hope they both get picked up on charges of animal cruelty. Mother of mercy, if anybody _touched_ one of my cats you’d need several grown adults to pull me off them.

Stray cats are just doing what it takes to survive, they’re part of the cycle of life. Even housecats which are subsidized predators, while being bad for local bird populations, are still members of people’s families. You educate their owners, you don’t fucking murder their pets!

Stray cats should be taken to a shelter. Housepets which get out, even without a collar, should be returned. You sick, sick, sadistic fucks. Cowards. Slime. Scum. Life thieves. Fucking life thieves!

I have a friend that was having problems with squirrels chewing into his attic and destroying his house. I loaned him my havahart traps. After he trapped a squirrel he called me and asked what he should do with it, I told him to fill a big rubbermaid container with water and put the whole trap in there. It’s a quick and humane way to kill them in a city where you can’t shoot them.

Why is it any different for a cat? Just because some people have them as pets does not mean all cats are lovable, loving creatures. I am a dog person, and I love dogs, but if I am in the woods and a pack of feral dogs starts growling at me, I will shoot and kill every last one of them.

I would agree that if you can have animal control do your dirty work for you, why not. But the cat will be just as dead.

“an animal has every bit as much a right to live as you do” Does that mean I should lay down and let a pack of feral dogs rip me apart? After all, the needs of the many…

If he was living in Ohio at the time of his sick killings, he’s guilty of [animal cruelty](http://www.animal-law.org/statutes/ohio.htm).
And is posting a record of his criminal activity to the Dope.

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve heard here…and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Seriously, think about it – animals have “as much a right to live as [humans]”? Fowl, fish, cattle, etc.?

Anyway, there’s a big difference between domesticated animals and wild ones. I doubt Americans are very familiar with feral cats (I certainly wasn’t until I spend some time “down under”), and so when someone speaks of killing _any_ felines, the typical reaction is “poor kitty-kitty”. That’s simply ignorance.

Eliminating a feral cat is actually a good thing; killing someone’s housepet is fucked. It’s not clear to me which ones **Crafter** is referring to. Perhaps that could be clarified before you start a lynch mob.

Stray cats aren’t pets – they’re vermin. It’s no more wrong to poison or shoot a nuisance stray cat than it is to poison or put out traps for rats and mice. If someone wants to keep the cat (mouse, rat, whatever) as a pet, great, but it’s their responsibility to keep it indoors or leashed.

I’m sorry, I don’t see which part of that law he was breaking. I agree that his actions were morally wrong - I would take any captured cats to the pound - but assuming he’s talking about feral cats, that law doesn’t apply.

Bullshit.

I would guess not. I would further guess that this is exactly the type of person Crafter is deliberately provoking.

I find his actions deplorable and borderline disturbing, but the people who would put the life of each animal on par with that of each human are just as disturbing.
