My only problem with the Herc and Xena shows is that, because I know most of the actors from NZ TV, I cringe at their a) awful accents b) terrible acting and c) ridiculous get-up. I saw the first episodes of the shows that are replacing Hercules. I didn’t like Cleopatra 2525 one bit. I’m going to withhold judgement and give it a few episodes to develop, but I don’t really think it’s going to last if it stays as bad as the first episode. Now, Jack of All Trades, on the other hand, was fantastic. A classic in the making (of course I’m a HUGE Bruce Campbell fan, so it could suck penguin shit and I wouldn’t care). But, I thought that it was cute and funny, and I’m looking forward to the second episode. The only drawback is now that Bruce is working on his own series, I bet we won’t be seeing any more of Autolycus on Xena ☹ Anyone else see them? What did ya think? ---

Sigh . . . you people. I spend a damn year watching the friggin shows to develop the ultimate game, and y’all just want it for **free**? Actually, I don’t have a copy handy. But here’s a brief list. #include \ /\* the following is not in any way to be construed as condoning the consumption of alcoholic beverages \*/ **One drink** Hercules uses someone as a weapon Iolaus beats on someone while completely suspended off the ground That damned “Ay-yi-yi-yi” Xena thing Anachronisms (Aphrodite wind-surfing, etc) Shitty puns Herc spouts touchy-feely crap Xena talks to her horse (4 drinks if the horse talks back) Gabrielle babbles **2 drinks** Herc uses a real weapon Iolaus gets laid Somebody smacks the shit out of Joxer or Salmoneus Ares gets a new beard style Xena uses her frisbee to do something patently ludicrous (i.e. knocking someone unconscious w/o a scratch after cutting through steel plate) Any lesbian reference in Xena Ares gives an evil chuckle We see Aphrodite, Athena, Hades, Poseidon, or some generic made-up-for-the-episode god Herc loses his shirt Xean does her Vulcan death-pinch thing **3 drinks** Hercules uses a weapon _for its intended purpose_ Joxer does something right Salmoneus gets laid Xena acts crazy We see Zeus Herc gets the shit beaten out of him (double if by the evil anti-Hercules) Anyone goes to the underworld Gabrielle _doesn’t_ act like a total twit **4 drinks** Hercules, Xena, Gabrielle, or Joxer get laid We see Olympus Joxer saves the day Xena’s horse saves the day Any episode not set in the standard fake Ancient Greece (medieval France, California, 1920’s Egypt)–helps kill the pain **The entire bloody Guinness brewery** Xena and Gabrielle get laid, er, simultaneously (if ya know what I mean) We see Hera (damn, I’m still feeling that last episode) -andros- ---

i don’t watch much tv but i think both those shows are a riot & very obviously meant as parody. you would no more expect historical accuracy from them than you would expect good science from ‘buffy the vampire slayer.’ however, i have a question that you who are more familiar w/ the shows might be able to answer. i’ve noticed that several of the actors are listed in the credits as also being production personnel. (there was even one show where kevin disappeared & they had to come up w/ a new hero & everyone played whatever part it showed they had according to the credits, in modern dress.) so, are they actually involved at that level or is that more of the put-on? ---

_Beastmaster_? I thought that was an old fantasy movie series? (And another, more illegal porn series) I don’t really watch either show, but if they’re on and the Simpsons isn’t, I’ll sit through them. Especially Xena. What a babe. I am a Xena fan, when the series is at it’s best it is definitely not a children’s show. It can be silly and campy but sometimes it is mature and deadly serious. Such episodes as The Price, Sacrifice 1&2, Maternal Instincts, Is There A Doctor In The House are extremely violent and adult in nature. ---

If you mean do they actually direct some episodes, then yes it’s true. If you mean are some of the one-off characters also sometimes writers or directors, that is also true. guano, 3 of the characters (campbell is one, one is one of the immortal women, don’t remember the other character’s name) are listed as executive producers or assistant exec producers. do you think they really are? they are pretty creative, wide-ranging folks if so. interesting, too, i think that they would invest so much of themselves in the program. ---

But I bet one could make a comparison with _M_A_S_H\*: There was first a novel, then there was a movie based on the novel, then there was a TV series based on the movie, then there were two spin-offs (the unfunny failure _AfterMASH_, the more successful _Trapper John, M.D._), based on the TV series. The further one gets from the original, the less resemblance there is to the original. (For instance, IIRC, in the novel and movie, Hawkeye goes home _before_ Trapper John does and Henry Blake is not killed.) Yeah, they will be. A lot of shows do that, get the stars in as decision makers. Bruce Campbell is of course one of Sam Raimi’s oldest friends, so it’s no wonder he gets some creative comtrol sometimes. I think Robert Trebor (who plays Salmoneus) is also a behind-the-scenes guy sometimes. Most of the immortals (Gods and Demi-gods) are New Zealanders, so I don’t expect them to have much in the way of creative control, as the core team are Americans. However, if you’re referring to the wonderful _sigh_ Hudson Leick (Callisto) I have no clue what she does behind the scenes. I could happily stare at her naked abdomen for the rest of my life, though… Oh, and Beastmaster the TV series is meant to be closer to the book than the movie. yeah, right. * * * **-PIGEONMAN-** Returns!
