For whatever reason, at least in these times, Christmas is like “zero.” Thus today, January 6, is Twelfth Night. This is the culmination of the Christmas celebration.

uh, Eve - simple reason - it’s cold, and snowy, and under the snow is ice, and I usually wait for March before I start hanging around on a ladder, struggling with light cords frozen onto hooks.

yeah, snow, ice. you folks sound like you have reasons to leave the stuff up a while. here folks not only leave the lights up, they leave them _on_ year round.
& there are whole neighborhoods where they have monster competitions, starting in october, to see who can put up the most elaborate display. you better want to play if that’s a neighborhood you move into. the paper prints lists of all the places you can go to see block after block of schlock. cops have to handle traffic. don’t plan on moving your car any time before january 1.
a couple of plastic candy canes still in the lawn? how about a whole carousel of santa’s reindeer, w/ music? for 8 weeks . . .

Down my way (i.e., New Orleans), Christmas segues directly into Carnival season. January 6 is King’s day/Twelth night/feast of the Epiphany - the official starting point of the carnival season. Traditionally, New Orleanians keep their Christmas trees up until that day.
