Transmissible venereal tumors?

Nah, it’s that the females have them. Well, sort of. A pseudo-penis, anyway.

As for the OP, I don’t think anyone is confused. Somebody saw something, thought it looked like a hyena (or just made it up). Posters replied that there is nothing native to Arkansas that looks exactly like a hyena. Could be a lengthy list of other things that can look somewhat like a hyena, depending on how bad the original observer’s eyesight and memory may be. Or, just possibly, by some incredibly rare set of circumstances, it might have been an escaped hyena. But probably not.

Everything else in this thread is just fluff.

OK I’ll give you a serious answer. Try this:

> In Arkansas folklore, the Howler is a legendary creature said to dwell in the Ozarks.\[citation needed\] According to tradition, the creature is bear-like in shape with a dark colored, shaggy coat.\[citation needed\] In December 2015, the Arkansas television station 40/29 News reported that it had received photographs purported to be images of the creature from a viewer. The station contacted the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, who responded that they had heard of no claims of sightings of the cr...

It was a hoax that didn’t fool its intended victims but still spread rapidly and continues to fool people to this day.

Now that’s you’re back in, why would you tell your friend we can’t answer it without a picture when he provided one? And why are you so resistant to the idea that your friend might be pulling your leg?
