To make a _very_ long story short, I think I am going to have to block someone I have known for years from sending me e-mail on my Yahoo Mail account. If I do block his address, and he continues to e-mail me, will he be notified that his messages have been blocked?

One way to find out. If you want, PM me your e-mail address. Then I’ll e-mail you, then you can block me. Reply to my e-mail to let me know and then I’ll e-mail you again.

Thanks - another friend just made the same offer.

Yahoo offers [blocking](http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/abuse/abuse-09.html)primarily as a defense against spam. It is effectively automatic deletion. It would be unwise to respond to a spammer because it would validate your email address, and it would just be a huge amount of extra work for Yahoo to send responses to all those blocked addresses.

They don’t explicitly say, but I would put money down that there is no response.
