Yelling at each other about 9/11 (Split from the "How has Trump pissed you off today" thread)

Once again … apropos of nothing in particular … I’m reminded of a piece of a quote from former GW Bush speechwriter, David Frum:

We want things to return to normal, back to a world in which we do not have to waste time rebutting demented conspiracy theories and fact-checking farcical lies every single day.

I have no earthly idea exactly what Frum meant, or why it occurred to me to quote him here, but … nice turn of a phrase, huh?

I’m more reminded of:

My friends tell me that confirmation bias exists, but all the sites that I’ve noticed say it doesn’t.

Yes, and in the Green Ramp disaster I mentioned earlier the entire front of that C-141 was gone after it was struck by and F-16. The plane basically just burned.

Folks seem to think that a plane is incredibly solid, but it is literally a big, hollow tube. It is designed to withstand very great, but also very specific forces.

I hadn’t happened to watch this the first time it was posted. Holy guacamole! Anyone who sees that and still insists the hijacked 9/11 planes should have left recognizable sections, well – I’m at a loss for words.

I was going to make some absurdist comment along the lines of the footage obviously being fake since why would anyone crash a Phantom into a concrete wall if not to try to hide the twuth about 9/11. Then I just read the first YouTube comment:

But on 9/11 the plane came through the other side.

Amazing eh.

You really just can’t out crazy the crazies.

I wasn’t going to post again in the thread, because obviously this is a subject that has been beyond beaten into the ground.

FWIW, I wanted to share my own story about the fact that 9/11 is probably the precipitating incident that made me a fan of the SDMB. I was 19 years old when 9/11 happened. At the time I had a burgeoning interest in politics and government, but I was still obviously a teenager and and my understanding of international politics was superficial to say the least. When 9/11 happened my mind was completely blown, for lack of a better descriptor. As someone who came of age in the 90s, stuff like this didn’t happen in the real world this was the stuff of action movies not real life.

I immediately had an overwhelming urge to understand why it happened. I started paying more attention to the news, but what I noticed was that the news was telling me what happened and how, but not necessarily why. At least not in a way that I understood at the time.

But then I found this place. I may or may not have been registered at the time, (I just tried to double check my registration date and have forgotten where to find that information at), but I definitely had been reading for at least a year if not a couple at that point. And I remember so many threads from that time period that played out similarly if not exactly like this one. There were so many people here that were trying to explain the cites, the reports, and the science behind it. One thing I do remember from that time was trying to grasp the idea that an airplane was not a solid object, but an aluminum tube flying through the sky. And they’re not built to take crashes the same way that cars and trucks are. I remember the aluminum can comparison, that made sense. And I know I’ve seen that video before of the plane disintegrating into the concrete wall. I did eventually grasp what was going on. You’ll probably not find many or any posts for me in that time period because I was in pure reading mode at the time. I was like a sponge using this place to soak up as much knowledge and information as I could. That hasn’t really changed come to think of it.

The difference now of course is that, in the weeks and months after, there weren’t multitudes of reports and analysis available in whatever form you care to take it in explaining exactly what happened. The info is out there for those who want to find it.

I will say that with how many different ways this board has changed over the last 25 years, it’s nice to see that some things don’t change. For those in this thread that are engaging with the ideas and trying to explain things again, I applaud you. I know it’s frustrating to go over the same subjects again and again, and to be clear I don’t think it is anyone’s personal responsibility to educate others, but there may be other 19 year olds reading this thread right now who are learning not just how to think, but how to think critically, because of threads like this.

Re: the “tired topics” discussion…

I think it bears keeping in mind that this is a mainstream conspiracy theory now. Most people don’t treat it any differently than they do the moon landing, or if Elvis is still alive. We’ve done a good job at tamping this down here on the board, but this stuff is still out there in the wild.

You joined Jan 4th, 2001, 9 months prior to 9/11.

I want to point out something that isn’t obvious about that test.
That reinforced concrete block? It measured over 20 feet in height and width and was 12 fucking feet thick.

Right.
And, when the wall isn’t a solid mass of concrete, this is what happens:

Leaving only big pieces more-or-less intact:

Yeah, if you squished that building vertically flat I doubt it was much more than 12 feet thick.
As far as the plane was concerned that building was made of glass and air.

That shows up for me as Jan 5th. I’m guessing that’s because of me being on the other side of the IDL and the default, IIRC, for this board is Central time.

Frum plans and Trump laughs.

CPs?

I tried Googling it but didn’t see anything related to this thread subject (it was mostly Cerebral Palsy).

What does CP mean? Maybe conspiracy something or other?

Also:

Why did you start this in the Pit and then complain about the names and language heaped your way?

Thanks.

Conspiracy Theories. I didn’t feel like typing it out.

Ok, but isn’t that abbreviated ‘CT’?

The P in Ptheory is silent, I assume?

The P was destroyed by the micro-nano-pico-thermite.

Conspiracy Theories. I didn’t feel like typing it out. Should have been CT.

I also never started this thread in the pit. In fact I never started it all. It was sun off from a previous thread. I asked for it to be shut down but was declined. So here we are, and I’ve very quickly grown tired of it to be honest. Some replies have been helpful, but way too many have been preachy and just way too condescending. I have no interest in talking with these individuals here or any other thread. I hope you understand.

BTW, I’ve always understood a conspiracy theory to be when someone believes a group of people have conspired to perform some action or perpetuate some belief system, as in the conspirators stabbing Julius Caesar. It does not mean some far-out theory, which is how many here use the term. As far as 9/11 goes, I think it is very unlikely an inside job or a false flag operation, because the logistics of that would been too complicated. And George W Bush was not that smart.

Anyway, I’m pretty much done talking about this. Have a good evening.

Don’t worry too much about where it showed up, because it would have sounded bugfuck crazy no matter what forum it finally got posted in.

Cool! Something else for you to ‘’‘’‘research’‘’‘’!
‘’‘’‘Research’‘’‘’ because “Do your research” is something so common to hear from flat Earthers that it’s become a running joke.
