Volcano’s going to blow and apocalypse is coming? Oh, no! And I was going to start REALLY doing good on my diet, but if we’re all going to starve…Well…I better go see if there are any chips and dip left. Just to be safe. Also, just to be safe, I should start doing my best to PROVE to everyone around that I am definitely not a virgin and therefore would be useless to sacrifice to volcano-god, etc. You know, it’s not every impending natural disaster that makes women want to eat and fuck. Oh, no, wait, yes it is…Hey! Very clever scientists! Put your pants back on and close the fridge! Party’s over! ---

Um, I was wondering . . . I live in Northern Virginia, about 10 miles south of Washington, D.C. After all of these posts describing the vast stretches of destruction when Yellowstone finally erupts, what is likely to happen to us East Coasters? Need answer fast! ---

_Worst case:_ you’ll get some ashfall, maybe up to a half an inch, maybe just a dusting depending on wind and other factors. The sky will look overcast to one degree or another for quite some time. Spectacular sunsets and sunrises. As millions, perhaps tens of millions, of refugees fleeing the worse effects out west show up on the east coast your town will get crowded. Agriculture is going to tank so fresh food will skyrocket in cost and there may well be shortages (stock up on canned and preserved food). Water supplies and rivers will be fouled by ash for awhile. Some buildings may collapse. Try not to breath the ash, it can tear your lungs up. The economy will be trashed to the point our current economy looks pretty rosey. There may be widespread civil unrest. There will be dead wildlife all over the place (though not all of it will die). A lot of plant life will die (though not all of it) A smaller eruption will be less unpleasant, of course. I mean, you probably haven’t noticed any of the steam explosions at Yellowstone over the past 50 years, right? ---

I’m thinking it’s just as well that I’m as close to Yellowstone as I am. Sort of the same way I wouldn’t really want to survive a nuclear war. ---

Sadly, it has been [over two days since the area experienced a quake](http://www.seis.utah.edu/req2webdir/recenteqs/Maps/Yellowstone_full.html) of even 0.3 on the open ended Richter scale. It appears that we may not be doomed after all. ☹ ---
