Oh my god do I love those things. I was so happy, the other night it was only about 55 degrees, and I got to make cocoa and wear my favorite nightgown. It was heaven.

I love autumn. Its my favorite time of the year.
The crispy leaves, the warm cider, going to the pumpkin patch, crisp cool air, hearing the PA during the high school football games, the Halloween decorations.
No other time of the year even comes close for me.

I was just thinking this exact thought on the way into work yesterday morning. It’s not really autumn here yet, but the crisp, cool evening are now following the semi-sultry days. And the sky just seems bluest from September through November.

The mornings are cool now, here in Mississippi. I can only assume this is a sign of autumn. (I’ve no experience with Southern falls.) It made me homesick; autumn was my favorite season back in New York. My mother is mailing me a bushel of apples from the local orchard as soon as they send out the pickers. If only she could send me some spiced cider and apple donuts, as well…

The mornings are cool here in KC, MO too, but the afternoons/early evenings are still rather too warm. Too warm for my liking. I like wearing long sleeved clothing more than short sleeved, and that’s why I love fall (naturally by March I want to go back to T-shirts). I love wearing my orange hooded sweat-shirt, or my flannel shirts. Horray for flannel!

For me, fall in Maryland really starts in October, and it’s great. The changing leaves in the Catoctins will take your breath away, and the display of Halloween decorations for sale at Valley View Farms is unparalleled.
Time to get out the cotton turtlenecks, little plaid skirts, fabulous black beret, and hit the flea markets, apple festivals and winery tours.
My buddy Warren and I used to have a saying: “The air is full of October possibilities!”

We don’t even get the foliage. The leaves turn brown and fall off.
In Minnesota, when the leaves turn, the hillsides look like they’ve been set on fire with all the beautiful colors, and the air turns crisp and the sky is blue and then it snows and turns cold for six months.

NE FL is another green-brown-gone area. It’s still hot and humid here and I hate it. I can’t wait till my kid is in college so we can move back to Maryland… (We don’t want to move her from her high school if we don’t have to)
I love fall and I miss it so very much. \
