Yes, we cheated, but investigating us is racist

I think the only times I’ve heard the name Saul Alinsky it was when Sarah Palin tosses him randomly into one of her word salads. I don’t think she even knows he’s actually a person tho.

Phew! I can finally sleep better at night knowing that those uppity black folks won’t get away with winning a little league championship that they technically didn’t have a right to enter in the first place because of zoning issues.

If we start letting them win when they’re kids, soon they’ll be thinking they can be successful adults.

Thanks for sharing this with us Terr. Keep up the good work at bringing us the most pressing racial issues of our day.

His point was that this is not a racial issue, but that Jesse Jackson and the parent who is quoted in the article are unfairly making it one. The team was caught cheating by recruiting players from outside the district.

If we are supposed to have teams from each town, but I cherry pick the best players from across the whole state, then I’ll probably beat your town’s team. That’s cheating and when I’m found out and disqualified, it is offensive to call the officials racists, homophobes, anti-Semites or whatever untrue insult I hurl at them.

Cheating? In Chicago?

They bring a bat? You bring a knife. They bring a knife? You bring a gun.

They put one on base? You put one in the morgue.

That’s the Chicago way.

I think some people who have been historically at a disadvantage are so welded to the concept that “the system” is biased and against them that they think either they have to bend the rules/cheat/whatever or that the other guys (the not-them) have been somehow gaming the system all along.

This is not to say everyone of a historically disadvantaged group feels that way, just some. And it may or may not be applicable here.

There have also been death threats against several parties involved in this dispute, although no violence as of yet.

Duplicate post

Death threats on the interwebs. Lol. I’m terrorised. News at eleven.

Would the investigation have happened if the team was, say Chinese?

Hell if I know but it is so easy to scream “racism” when things don’t suit your thoughts.

Why is such a high profile person as Jesse Jackson getting involved- from the link it hardly seems a headline article.

No, they weren’t internet-based threats. Apparently credible enough for the police to take an interest. Thanks for playing.

Of course not. How many Chinese people are good at baseball?

(Hint: There are currently no Chinese players in Major League Baseball, but South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan are all represented)

ETA: I realize that the above question and answer aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, and that there are many other factors besides nationality. Indulge me…

I think parents just get really competitive and want their kids to win Little League. It’s not like this is an isolated occurrence. There have been a bunch of Little League scandals over recent years.

Actually, the coach who first reported the residency discrepancy about the JRW team is now being questioned about HIS team, some of which are also out of his designated area, but apparently that’s OK, because reasons. So, yeah, there’s quite a bit of this going around.

I feel bad for the kids, but this controversy will have no effect on what’s really important in life, their shot at the majors. Have you seen those kids play? Every one of them probably has several scouts watching his every move, waiting until he gets old enough to go pro.

The Little League World Series and Jackie Robinson High School was a fairly big story here in Chicago–first when they were advancing through the playoffs and won the US championship. And, now. Jesse Jackson lives in Chicago, and it’s unsurprising to me that he would comment on it publicly, given the story.

How about Hispanic?

Everyone knows that Hispanics* have an extra baseball gene. It can be traced back to the Maya, who were selectively bred bay ancient aliens to be good at ball games.

*Not the ones born in Spain, but the real Hispanics, born in the New World.

doesn’t matter. They “won” as the result of cheating, therefore they didn’t win. Children are not fragile little wisps who will collapse into dust at the merest setback. If anything, they’ll pick up on the notion that cheating to win is not the thing to do.

This too. But the kids don’t “deserve” the wins either.

Jesse Jackson was standing next to Martin Luther King, Jr. when he was assassinated. And had been near this danger during all sorts of walks. None of his critics like Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly have ever been in any physical danger for something they believe in, and probably don’t have anything they believe in other than self-promotion. Yes, Jackson promotes himself too, but he believes in something worthwhile and puts his life on the line for it. So hate him all you want, but I would ask that you please not compare him with with a coward who has never even debated on equal terms someone he disagrees with on any subject whatsoever.

That’s a lie that Jesse likes to tell.
