I know, I know, we’ve ranted before. Pop ups. Pop unders. Yadda yadda. My latest beef: The Bernie Mac Show is popping up RIGHT OVER THE GODDAMN ARTICLE I’M READING!! Oh, it’s clever. Little bubble popping noises as 3 bubbles appear right over the text I’m a paragraph into reading. Bernie, I love your show. You’re a riot. But I’m right in the middle of reading about Mel Gibson’s foray into a film using not one but TWO dead languages. I do NOT care about who can steal baby girl’s doll. I do NOT care that Ice Cube is guesting on your next show! At least…NOT RIGHT NOW! Man. What the hell? Am I supposed to be actually working when I’m sitting here in my cube? Any more variations on the whole pop-up advertising, and I might just give it a shot. :mad: ---

I know this isn’t in general questions and I’d hate to interrupt such a well deserved rant, but I just downloaded (for free) popupstopper by panicware and it’s been working great on those bastard popup ads. Even provides bomb dropping sound effects when it kills off another popup. ---

However, it doesn’t stop the slide-across-the-screen popups the OP is talking about, just the separate screen from the site ads. This is a horrible travesty that should be corrected soon. ---

I think the slide accross the screen thing is actually a Flash movie. I’ve yet to find a really effective way to kill Flash. ---

Uh, it costs money to run a web site. Advertising covers part of the costs of the business. You are getting the information FOR FREE. So terribly sorry that you had to wait 15 seconds to receive that free information. Haj ---

It’s a nice touch, especially when it popped up right as I’m reading a story on Yahoo! News about that horrendous woman pummeling her daughter. _…the child then crawls into a car seat but the beating continues. The Sept. 13 incident…_ **Boing! Boing! Boing! Screeeech!**. It’s like watching BBC World News with anchorman Carl Stalling. ---

If you don’t want to get beat over the head by said stick, find another source of information. You could, for example, wait until the next morning and pay for a newspaper or buy a membership for an ad free news site or make a bunch of phone calls until you found someone with a pinch of patience who read about the information and is willing to take the time to debrief you. You can use a browser like Opera or Mozilla if you are at home. Those have a setting to kill pop-ups. I can go several months at home without seeing a pop-up. ---

[www.proximitron.com](http://www.proximitron.com), they have a neat utility that stops popups, scripts and you can even switch images. It’s very powerful and easy to use. ---

**Haj** , I should have expected the “what do you want for free?” rebuttal. Personally, if it bugged me enough, I _would_ buy a newspaper. Fortunately, it ain’t earth shattering enough. I’ll just rant here instead, thanks. :: debates whether to burst **Nostradamus’** vision of me or not - NAH! :: 😉
