Yet another computer-related problem

Had the same problem. I found this and it fixed my problem.

Yes, that works fine for setting up a Comcast account, but has nothing to do with the problem I’m having.

if your email provider wants you to send using SMTP on port 25, I don’t know if there is a solution. Comcast isn’t going to unblock that port, and if your email provider has no alternatives, you’re probably stuck.

The provider doesn’t care about ports. It’s setting up a third party email provider to function through Comcast that is the problem. I’ve attempted all the solutions without success and am just going to dump my provider, who, as I mentioned, is a pain in the ass to begin with.

Uh, yes they do. When you send an e-mail Outlook needs to open a TCP/IP connection to your e-mail provider’s SMTP server. Historically that has been on TCP Port 25 for SMTP which most e-mail clients use as a default. Comcast is blocking traffic using port 25 to try to combat spam bots. Ergo, if your e-mail provider’s SMTP server is still listening to port 25 and they don’t give you an alternate, you’re stuck.

yes, for the reason above.

Okay. Well, regardless of the reason, it’s a pain in the ass and I’m taking the easy way out.

It took me less than a minute to fix it. Sounds like you just want an excuse to change providers.

HE’S NOT USING COMCAST’S EMAIL. HE’S SAID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES. HE’S USING A DIFFERENT EMAIL PROVIDER.

your solution won’t address the issue he’s having.

You have a fine future in online problem solving. Nobody else seems to be able to understand that simple qualifier. That said, dumping this provider has been coming and this is just the final straw. The white list problem has been going on for the last six months or more. It’s a simple matter of a phone call to their tech support to resolve it, but it’s an annoying monthly chore.
