Yet another extended power outage in New England...

Make no mistake, this storm did a heckuvalotta damage to the power grid, on the drive into work, through Dover NH, there’s a section on Dover-Eliot/Eliot Bridge Road that still has at least two massive trees down on the wires, wires on the ground, the trunk is easily four to five feet across, there’s a big estate just past the intersection of Baer and Gulf roads that has a stand of pine trees planted in a regular grid pattern, these are at least 50-60’ tall, and they’ve lost at least 5-10 of them, in toppling over, they’ve taken some of their neighboring trees with them, and since they’re planted in a grid pattern, the wind was able to whip through them easier, damaging them, had it been a natural stand of trees, with “random” placement, the damage would have likely been less, as the random pattern of trees would better dissipate the wind

The line crews still have a lot of work ahead of them, and I feel for anyone who still has their power out, extended outages like this are why it pays to be prepared, make sure you have backup sources of heat, water, food and light, it may not be fun to endure a long outage, but with proper preps, the outage can be reduced to an inconvenience, not a life-threatening situation
