Many years ago, a young woman asked me for the directions from San Francisco to San Jose. I replied, “You want to know the way to San Jose?”. She didn’t get it.

You can have fun with clueless people also. I once worked at a place where the chief engineer was named Allen. I would try to convince new hires that he invented the Allen wrench.

Q: What do four trips around a unit circle and knobby argonauts have in common?  
A: They’re both octopi.

Not one single person has ever found it funny.

Once upon a time I was Operations Manager for a small company which frequently used custom made point of purchase displays.

During a meeting with other management types and the owners of the company we were discussing some powder coated racks we would be buying for a new product. I mentioned that we were likely to have some left over; one of the owners said “No one gets full use out of their racks.” I replied, “Torquemada did.”

Only one person got it, and he wasn’t the laughing sort. Ah, well.
