I normally listen to the BBC Global News podcast for my news, but it’s really not meshing with my listening habits. Usually I switch, over the course of a week, between listening to a mass of queued up podcasts and some audio book. Which works great with all of the weekly podcasts I listen to, but not so much when I’ve got ten solid hours of daily updates accumulated.

With the Global News show in particular, there isn’t a lot added to each new podcast, so there’s a lot of redundancy. Plus the BBC includes a good deal of British domestic news, and a few godawful “silly” pieces at the end of each one. In other words, I think I get about 5-10 minutes of new and interesting stuff out of each 30 minute podcast.

Is there a good, in-depth, and weekly news podcast out there?

And in the spirit of sharing, a list of the other podcasts I listen to, vaguely categorized.

Science podcasts:
Cell Podcast (WAAAY technical. Which is fine when they hit a field I’m acquainted with, but I’m mostly lost at least half the time.)
Nature Podcast (Good, but uneven. The interviewed scientists variously assume an audience of scientists in their field, or a completely clueless lay audience.)
Nature Neuropod
Science Magazine Podcast (Same complaint here as for the Nature podcast).
WNYC’s Radio Lab (one of my absolute favorites)
Science Friday (via the Talk of the Nation podcast)

News/Politics:
The Economist
BBC Global News
NPR Talk of the Nation (though usually I skip at least half of these if I’m not interested in the topic at hand)

Entertainment:
Savage Love (I’ll skip strait to this whenever the new podcast comes out)
Car Talk
Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me

I recently gave up on the All Songs Considered podcast, since their tastes rarely line up with my own, and I thought I had escaped indier-than-thou-hipsters when I graduated college. I do miss finding music that I would otherwise never known about…

I just recently discovered how to use my MP3 player and am searching around for interesting podcasts, too.

Have you tried [Sound Opinions](http://www.soundopinions.org/)? There’s also Paste Magazine’s [Culture Club podcast](http://www.pastemagazine.com/cultureclub/archives.htm), though it appears to have been discontinued/inactive since January.

The BBC’s [Americana: inside the USA](http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/americana) is quite interesting.

Not a weekly news podcast, but the Bloomberg podcasts are quite interesting and seem similar to some of what you’re listening to.

I listen to the economics one every day.
