So there are these two kids sitting in one of their dad’s offices, a bong lit in one kids’s hand. They are talking stoner talk, one of them reaches into the desk, and pulls out a gun. Kid with bong asks if it’s loaded, gun-toter says no, pulls trigger and shoots the bong-wielder. Next message is “Marijuana can impact your judgement and sense of reality!”. What the hell? I am a straightedge, no drugs, and I find this commercial insulting! What a dumb way of conveying a message. How many kids smoke up in their dad’s offices? How many go looking for loaded guns and shoot their friends? We all know that if you smoke pot, you will find a gun and shoot someone. I would like to see the accidental-firearms deaths for stoned teens. If I were a chiba fiend, I would use the commercial as an cue to light up! My preferred antidrug commercial was one suggested by the Daily Show. Have middle-aged businessmen say how they enjoy smoking reefer. Make it uncool for the kids, don’t preach. This commercial is like the pot=terrorism crap that we saw earlier this year. ---

Marijuana makes you so crazy you can’t tell that touching a gun that isn’t yours and pointing it at a friend is a bad idea… really, kids. _scratches head_ I must have missed that day. I’m not saying shit like that can’t or doesn’t happen, but it doesn’t seem really likely, now does it? You’d almost be better off saying “Marijuana makes you fat.” ---

More to the point, what the hell kind of businessman keeps a loaded gun in his desk? I dunno, the only judgment imparement I’ve experianced thanks to weed is a feeding frenzy that I felt hellua guilty for the next day. Alchohol, on the other hand, which is completely legal, has led to some VERY impared judgment calls on my part. The phrase “So what’s your last name?” comes to mind. :eek: If the kid had found a three pound block of fudge, eaten it all and experianced the predictable digestional problems…well, that’s impacted judgment AND impared sense of reality. Oy. ---

Oh you havent seen the other one yer whete it shows a girl buying soemthing like a dime bag and goes as far up the chain to the people the supplier supposedly killed cuase "they got in the way " ect About the only thing they sort of got right is the girls dealer was a slobby bum looking guy …Which seems to be most pot dealers in this area … ---

I’ve noticed a few ads which use the slippery slope fallacy and suggest that once you start smoking pot you must get addicted and will stop caring about everything. Yeah. That **always** happens. :rolleyes: ---

I mean, from my experience, my friends generally grow their own, or buy from those who grow their own. And the only people that get in their way are the ones standing in front of the pantry. ---

I think it’s insulting and completely unappropriate. I mean if people don’t want children to do drugs, lying to them is only going to encourage them. It’s like this: Goverment tells kid that pot will make them crazy stupid, kid smokes pot. Kid realizes that he/she isn’t crazy stupid. The government has now lied to the kid, kid then decides not to trust government. Said kid becomes the Fox Mulder of the drug world… I think scare tactics suck, they shouldn’t be used in preventitive measures, whether to deter drugs or to convert people to a given religion. ---

that comercial aint so bad…if it was for say huffing paint thinner. I don’t smoke pot but the people I know who do are for the most part perfectly normal everyday guys and gals. personally I am beginning to think that woking for the antidrug people has a negative affect on your judgment and sense of reality. ---

nothing makes me angrier than the “marijuana supports terrorism/ killing families”. You FUCKING DOLTS! I think the US government has caused more coups and insurrections than “Mary Jane”. As one of those who smokes a mind-blowing amount of pot each and every day, I have to laugh at anti-pot ads. The people who write that bilge have obviously never talked to a real pothead. I’m smart, I bathe, I have enough money to pay rent (usually), and my friends, surprisingly, are NOT all degenerate losers. Not to mention that most of the people I know who sell pot are just my friends anyway who happen to sell a little reefer on the side to pay for a shiny new car and a nice apartment. None of them really even get involved with anything but herb, let alone sell crack and smack and all that shit. At one point in my life, I was drinking heavily and doing all the stupid things that go along with it. I don’t drink at all anymore and I definitely make better life decisions. Not to mention that I’ve never shot anybody because I was so whacked out. I know, I know, it happens all the time. I guess I’m just lucky. Next time I’m getting high in my dad’s office, I’ll be a little more careful, though. ---

This tactic was found to be far more effective – teenagers are far more scared of becoming ugly than dying. ---

And they’re also overlooking the **paranoia** that accompanies toking up! I never saw a gun when I was high, but if I did, I imagine the conversation would be along those lines. Me: Omigod. Other kid: …what? Me: Lookit this. Second kid: Is that a gun? Me: Looks like it. First kid: Don’t touch it, don’t touch it! Second kid: Omigod…omigod…omigod… Me: I’m gonna close…the…drawer…verrrrrry…slowly… Second kid: AAAAAAAHHH!! Oh god…I thought it went off… First kid: Uh…we better get outta here. Whoever owns that thing… Me: Don’t say it, don’t say it! Omigod…do you think there are security cameras in here? Weed makes you **more** cautious, if anything. Not necessarily appropriately cautious, but toking up does not promote arrogant stupidity. When you’re already doing one illegal thing, you’re anxious to avoid breaking other laws in the process. ---
