# Yet another "should I be watching Infinity War yet" thread

Well, we saw it, and we didn’t really feel all that lost, since we already had a general sense of how major events have gone down, as I posted earlier. Some of the characters were new to us, but no biggie.
[SPOILER]We’ve heard of Dr. Strange. I didn’t feel lost without knowing his back story.
We were aware of the existence of the movie _Black Panther_, so no biggie there either.
The ones that were confusing for us were the redhead and her robot lover. We had no idea who they were, though I think the redhead was in the post-credits scene in _Winter Soldier_. (Not looking for confirmation! ;))[/SPOILER]
As for my worry that previous events might be spoiled for the films we haven’t seen yet, I can only think of two, and neither was a big deal:
[SPOILER]Thor stated that Odin is dead. We suspected as much anyway. If he wasn’t already dead at the end of _Dark World_, when Loki revealed he was masquerading as Odin, then I’d already figured he bites it in _Ragnarok_.
Bucky Barnes seems to be pretty much back to his old self. He wasn’t at the end of _Winter Soldier_, which we watched the day before _Infinity War_. But again, not a big shocker, as that’s how these things go in these movies.[/SPOILER]
Other than that, the audience laughed at a couple of spots that flew right over our heads, but again, no biggie.
We’ll understand everything it in due time, as we continue to work our way through the MCU. Back to _Agents of Shield_ tonight!

I started watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe films about halfway through the proceedings – basically _Guardians of the Galaxy_, and then everything in Phase Three – but I think I’ve seen enough of them that I will be able to appreciate _Infinity War_ without feeling particularly cheated. The fact that one of my core titles during my prime comic-collecting years was _The Avengers_ certainly helps out a lot. It’s not like the characters are new to me or anything.

The key point from _Age of Ultron_ that sets up _Civil War_ is
the setup for Tony Stark to go from the insufferably self-assured egotist who basically flips off the government in _Iron Man II_ to the advocate for putting superheroes under higher authority in _Civil War_.

That’s true but it’s not really relevant for Infinity War.
For what it’s worth, I saw IW without seeing Black Panther and it was fine. The introduction you get from Civil War is more than enough to understand what’s going on without feeling confused or cheated.

The list that was given is really interesting because of how they broke up Agents of SHIELD. I understand it up to the end of Winter Soldier because the show follows the movies pretty decent up to that point, but after that is goes off into it’s own thing. Maybe I’m mis-rembereing a reference or two, but I see no reason why you can’t just blitz all of SHIELD after season 3.

Well, I guess this runs a little late, since you saw it, but maybe this will help somebody on the fence still.
I think the only required viewings are the previous avengers movies, Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, and Thor: Ragnarok. You don’t want to go in there not having even brief exposure to one the characters, and these 4 movies cover it, I think, completely (Thor: Ragnarok covers Dr. Strange).
For a little extra oomph, I’d recommend Black Panther. The Wakanda scene will have more stakes if you’ve seen it.
Then of course, you have a cascading effect. It would be criminal to watch GoTG 2 without having seen the first one, for example.
