If you know me, you know I’ll defend people if I think there’s any defense. I see none here. You did not know anything about what you were talking about. You were factually wrong, and you keep on trying to claim you weren’t because you didn’t know better. That still makes you wrong. And it’s still stupid to post medical advice without at least looking it up. It’s a really bad Dunning Kruger effect. Smart people try to compensate for that. ---

I’ve never denied I was factually wrong. But I deny that I didn’t have the ability to give advice. As I’ve said over and over again, if you don’t know you don’t know something, then you can’t know you’re not qualified to give advice on it. **running coach** , **Canadjun** , **Velocity** and **DCnDC** all said “go to a doctor”. You said “don’t go to a doctor”. That is the fundamental difference. Incidentally, I’m not even all that worked up about this specific instance; I’m not entirely sure I believe the OP of the thread in question anyway (who signs up for a random website two days after an injury to ask medical questions? Why not go to, I dunno, WebMD?). I just find your aggressive stupidity irritating. ---

running coach also gave his medical opinion: “Either you didn’t burn it that badly or you have third degree burns.” Canadjun explained what a 3rd degree burn was. Velocity claimed information on a burn’s infection properties. And DCnDC gave his advice on what a medical treatment would be. I think if they aren’t doctors, you should ask them to take their suggestions and speculation all back, you know, in the interest of not looking like an assoholish jackass. And Velocity didn’t say go to a doctor. ---

What, precisely, is so horrible about the prospect of saying, “I was very wrong, and now that I have learned how my error arose, I will no longer make similar mistakes?” I know a good bit about the law. But you’ll notice that my habit, in answering questions about civil law, is to note at the outset that this is an area in which I don’t have strong expertise, that I defer to those more in the know than I; criminal law is my speciality. And that, in an area in which my expertise certainly exceeds a lay public level of understanding. I’d imagine that if you had said, “Admittedly I am not a doctor and have no medical training, but it seems to me that . . . .” the criticism would be largely blunted. I think – and I could be wrong 😃 – that the criticism here is fueled by your aggressive defense of your exercise of advice when you didn’t know enough to know you didn’t know enough. ---

Hey, I’m an MD. I’ve done multiple rotations in different burn units during my surgical residency, over and above the baseline. I did the same in medical school, too. I strongly considered fellowship training in burn surgery, but didn’t end up going that route. **YogSothoth** , you are one _stupid fuck_. ---

Do you only choose to talk in legal topics, since you are not trained in, for example, medicine, or relationships, or the economy? Each one of us has information we know on other subjects besides the one we’re most familiar. It is never wrong to go into a topic, knowing you’re not an expert, but participating based on what you know. If you’re wrong, other people will point it out. If you’re not, then what you say can still be beneficial. I totally admit that and am actually quite proud of fighting his shitpost with my shitpost. You continue to defend and express pride in your bravery for “contributing,” merely because although ignorant, you didn’t know you were ignorant. In other words, your ignorance might have been fought on third degree burns, but it remains active on the subject of posting from ignorance. Your ignorance is engaged in aggressive self-defense. ---
