On the other hand if you said “you are going to hit your thumb with a hammer when pounding a nail and it will hurt a lot” I would definitely agree.

First time was back in the 1960’s, hiking in the woods, fallen leaves hid a stump that I hit my toe on (was wearing Keds) and my toenail turned purple and fell off. Fast forward 5 decades, I’m still hiking. Growing out purple toenails became a yearly occurrence until I bought those lambs wool doodads that ballerinas put in the tips of their toe shoes, stuck them in my hiking boots and now my toenails look great.
But yeah, getting up to go pee in the middle of the night it’s going to happen, I know it.

I don’t have to wait. It happened Saturday. While chasing a small child around our home, barefoot, I slammed the little toe of my right foot into the corner of the kitchen island.
I’m reasonably certain it’s broken. It’s definitely hideous. It definitely still hurts. I’m wearing my roomiest shoes. And being very careful.

In the same damned place, too!
Chair legs jump out in front of my toes. Beds grow legs that trip me while I make the bed. Doorknobs ambush me!
And invisible things like to crack across my shins, to give me interesting bruises!
Inanimate objects confer in the middle of the night, creating battle plans where I am flayed black and blue!

When your little toe goes one direction and the rest of the toes in another… yeah that hurts! Gah!
My bathroom has an oddly shaped corner wall that sticks out _just enough_ to catch my pinky toe, especially at 2am when I don’t want to turn the light on and the night-light isn’t quite bright enough.

I _will_ eventually stub my toe again on a very hard surface, but it’s not going to hurt a bit.
At least there’s one good thing about having severe peripheral neuropathy.

Nope, toe stubs don’t hurt, it isn’t that they can’t, it’s just that in the course of my job, which entails a lot of walking with hands full and feet and path blocked frim view, I’ve developed into a very careful walker. Now that “bone thats only funny to everyone else” nerve in the elbow, that I will hit. Do it on a regular basis it seems like, setting myself up for some future dexterity failure due to nerve damage, I’m sure.
