I’ll make this quick, since I’m on my way out the door. When I said “I’m in the field”, I am a graduate student in communications with a particular focus on the so-called New Media, or what everyone else calls “Web 2.0”. I have done research (granted, unpublished research, but research nonetheless) into the phenomenon. You’re right. Time’s treatment of the subject is pretty superficial. To me, however, it’s great that a mainstream publication is finally noticing the shift that is taking place. I think part of the misunderstanding that happened this afternoon is that I’m actively studying this in depth, and you’re so used to it that you think it’s obvious and can’t understand what the big deal is. It’s unfortunate. If **Walter** ’s OP had included any of the points from (his) post #38 and the initial responses weren’t what they were, I wouldn’t be in the difficult position of having to defend **Ms. Robyn**. But I am, so: Robyn’s initial post perfectly responded to what was in the thread up to that point. Sorry, hayters, not her fault she didn’t “get” the irony or subtext of your posts. But that Time article really is a phone/hi-speed internet/conspicuous consumption ad. Pffft. ---
