I just spent a week in World Civilizations class learning about Islam, including its history and basic theology. This is not a bad thing. To paraphrase Master Yoda, “Ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to hatred, hatred leads to suffering.” I like to think that we all have a small part in preventing that suffering by refusing to blind ourselves with our own prejudices, and that refusal begins with educating ourselves about the world and the people who live within it. It may not be 100% within your comfort zone, but it’s still your obligation as a human being to at least try.
Quite frankly, people who refuse to learn about other cultures and the world around them scare me. If you’re this intolerant towards Muslims, how can I be sure you’re going to be tolerant towards Jews or anyone else not like you? Judging from your previous posts, I can’t. Honestly, I wouldn’t hire you as my lawyer because I can’t be sure you’d treat my case as fairly, or with the same zeal as you would a white Christian.
And I’d KILL to be able to take a course on masturbation. I could stand to improve my technique.
Heck, I’m an athiest and would send my hypothetical kid to a Catholic school. Especially a Jesuit institution.
Spent my elementary years (early 80s) in a Catholic school. We learned about Judaism, and Islam, and Hinduism; there was never any question that we wouldn’t be taught about evolution. Far more openminded curriculum than I encountered later in a public high school.
