Heh…I remember several years ago when LaRouche was running for office, one of his loonies showed up at my door. After asking me if I was tired of a lying, thieving government, she said that “her” candidate was the man for me, by golly. “Who is your candidate?” I inquired. “My candidate believes this, that and this other thing, represents blah-blah-blah…” I cut her off. “WHO is your candidate?” “I’m sure you want a change in the way…” “WHO IS YOUR CANDIDATE?” She said, “Um.” I said, “It’s LaRouche, isn’t it?” She said, “Everything you’ve heard about him is lies - the kind of lies that put Hitler in power.” At this point, my elderly next-door-neighbor lady walked up to see what all the chit-chat was about. The loonie turned to her and started her pitch all over again (still on MY porch, I might add.) Then she said to her, “Your neighbor here doesn’t realize by not voting for LaRouche, she is just being a Good Little Nazi.” Did I mention my next-door-neighbor was a survivor of a WWII concentration camp? You never saw a little old lady swing a rake so fast in your life. Last I saw the loonie, she was running down the street screaming for help. \* \* \* \* (Note: the little old lady next door couldn’t run very fast, but she made her point. She died a few years later, and just about a week before her death she said to me, “Remember when I chased that dirtbag down the street? That was fun.”) ---

When I worked for the Secretary of State (MA, late 80’s to mid 90’s) the old buzzard would somehow collect enough signatures from unjustifiably registered voters to get on a few ballots for Congress and stuff. Party was different every time–I remember one confusing name, in a state that had about 35% registered Democrats, being The New Democrats. The words Workers and Future showed up a few times too. Before most people caught on to the looniness of LaRouche, his people would display his name and picture much more openly. It was weird. He looked sort of like an insane Lionel Barrymore with worse hair. (MA used to have about 12% Repubs and the rest independents, confusingly called Unenrolled. So the largest single voting block in the state was the Unenrolled Voters. Don’t ask. From the results, most vote Democrat in the general election. And oh yeah, there’s an actual Independent Party in the state too. We’re like Italy with clam chowder). ---

Actually, my LOL neighbor was not really a nice person, but she _was_ a pretty good neighbor as far as looking out for people in the neighborhood. Her experiences in Poland during the war made her a little paranoid (understandably) and very easily offended. I admired her, but I didn’t much like her, if that makes sense. (And for the record, **Mehitabel** , I’m a she.) ---
