Almost perpetually I have a slightly stuffed up nose (hayfever, about 90% of the year), so I normally don’t notice perfurme much. However, I work with one lady - she sits in the cube across from me, with no wall inbetween - and she is also a fan of the cheap, plentiful perfurme. Or perhaps it’s expensive, but it reeks so much that it makes _her_ seem cheap. I’m not sure which. The worst thing though, is that she reapplies her perfurme after lunch. Reapplies _large_ amounts of perfurme, I’m guessing, because when she walks by me when she gets back from lunch it **hits like a brick wall**. Honestly, it’s like a wave of solid stick hitting me on the face. On particularly bad days, I can taste her perfurme in the back of my throat. _ack_ ---

When I was a young teen, I used to love to play with the “testers” at drugstores. My mother hated that I’d come back from an outing with friends smelling like a French whore. Fortunately, I grew out of that, and know what scents work for me-The Gap’s Heaven, or else this really subtle vanilla scented body lotion from J. C. Penney. It’s extremely, extremely faint. ---

So this seems like a good place to ask this: What about my idea of spraying cologne on my chest so that it has to work its way out of the shirt? I figure that gives me some leeway on how much I’m using. The other idea is to put it on the back of my neck, so it is going away from anyone I’m facing. ---

Here’s my $.02 about Men and Cologne. If a woman can smell your stench before you arrive, why would she want to get any closer? I was out shopping yesterday and these two chumps at Wally World decided they were gonna try Axe out at the store. Gag me with a spoon. My BiL with whom I unfortunately share residence bathes in that shit. It doesn’t help that he’s an ugly, dumbass pissant either. Personally, I find that there is nothing more delicious in the world than the smell of freshly washed man. Maybe with a little deodorant. I dunno what my husband has been using lately but it’s quite tasty on him. Subtle, too. And I’m in agreement with the OP that perfume should be so subtle as to only be smelled by someone in rather intimate proximity. Sort of like, a provocatively dressed person not leaving much up to the imagination. It’s just not sexy if everyone within 50 feet can smell you. ---

Of course like everything else I’ve ever noticed about a particular ethnic group, it’s ONLY because I’ve been programmed by society and so I notice those things that conform with pre-determined notions and ignore those things that don’t.
