Look. Can’t afford birth control? WTF are you doing having sex? Hell, steal some condoms if you have to. Because if you can’t afford or somehow acquire some form of BC then chances are you can’t afford a kid either. Yes, I know there really isn’t any 100% birth control but it’s called being responsible and at least trying not to have a kid you can’t afford.

And that’s why I posted that. We found so many of the damn things it was scary.

</div>

Yes, because a woman or teenager who has to steal a $6 pregnancy test is clearly demonstrating a history of good judgement.

_Exactly_. I can think of several ways involving no good judgement on anyone’s part that lead to somebody stealing a pregnancy test. I would have loved to have sat down with them and explained a few things. Somebody fell down on the job of teaching them how to be responsible where sex is concerned.

And I worry for the babies in question. I only hope that most of the stolen tests came up negative.

About half of the pregnancies each year in the U.S. are accidental. HALF! I don’t understand how people function that allows this to happen, but there it is.

Cite? I’m curious as to the exact definition of “accidental,” wondering if it includes pregnancies that weren’t specifically planned for but that the parents weren’t actually trying to avoid.

It would be more accurate to say “about half.” Given the surrounding facts, I take it that unplanned means “I didn’t want to get pregnant,” not merely, “we had sex knowing it was likely to result in pregnancy but not necessarily hoping to get pregnant,” but the definition is not explicit.

Yeah, I do wonder if that includes people like my brother and sister-in-law. They are definitely not trying to get pregnant any time soon, according to my brother. They want to wait a couple of years before having kids. But they don’t bother with birth control. They are just not trying, you see – they are not actively PREVENTING. Somehow in my brother’s head these are two separate things. I assume that if my SIL gets pregnant sometime in the next couple of years, they will be scratching their heads about how this accidental pregnancy occurred.

(They shop at Wal-Mart a lot, by the way. Just to keep this post somewhat on-topic. 😃 )

> Weirdly, the one in Cary, NC (a top-rated and rather swanky town) is a total pit. I can only assume it’s old, therefore icky. Another nearby in Raleigh is considerably nicer, but I’d rather have a root canal than negotiate the parking lot on a weekend. I have heard people say that Walmart likes to open a new store with great fanfare, and it’s clean and bright and convenient and well staffed, but then as years pass, they don’t do upkeep and things get grungy fast.

The Cary Wal-Mart is a total hole. They are building a new shiny one a couple exits South at 55 and US1. I just moved to Durham and there are 2 of the new shiny ones here with the wide aisles and super cheap grocery. They still don’t have enough checkers. I’m betting they’re going to close the one on Tryon and Kildare.

“Walmartians” is rather widely used, and generally refers to the low-level workers of WalMart. Because, you know, anyone who has to work there for any period of time will morph into an alien life form.

Heh. I thought that also referred to those weirdos (as bountifully displayed in the website) who spend way too much time in Walmart…and have no problem shopping in their PJs. 🙂

In that case, I’d say the worker Walmartians are the odd ones who have bought the whole “Wal-Mart is awesome! We love Wal-Mart!” line and have no idea why anybody wouldn’t want to work there for the rest of their life. I certainly never was one of _them_.

It was honorable work and all but if I had to make a career in retail I wouldn’t want it to be at Wal-Mart. Gaaah.
