> Going by responses in this thread, I guess Brussels sprouts are like okra – you love 'em or you hate 'em and there’s no middle ground.

Sorry, but if you hate brussels sprouts _and_ okra you should be deported.

Brussels sprouts are great roasted or fried-but NEVER try to use them in soups or stews-they will become nasty, bitter, and with a bad odor.

Just had some more home-grown brussels sprouts last night (the harvest continues) with new potatoes.

Yum.

By the way, if you want brussels sprouts that actually _look_ like mini-cabbages, there are a couple of purple varieties you can grow. Mine were disappointing in size and yield compared to the usual green ones.

Oh, sure you can, just don’t cook 'em for too long. [Brussels sprouts and sausage soup](http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/brussels-sprouts-sausage-soup-10000001694239/). Awe-some.

Lightly coated with olive oil and a little salt, roasted in the oven til just a hint of brown around the edges, and then doused with dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, and a balsamic vinegar (with a small spoonful of brown sugar) reduced to a near syrup. Ooh that’s good.
