**Mockingbird** - Honestly, I think your parody of “Baby Got Back” was a more effective weapon against heterosexism than your last several posts have been. Like it or not, it’s very difficult to get people to see your side of the story when you spend most of your time enumerating the many different ways in which they’re assholes (no pun intended). There’s a reason why the homophobes get so upset about positive representations of homosexuality in the media. They don’t want Joe and Jane Six-pack seeing gay folks just bein’ gay folks. They want to keep us as enemies. This honestly isn’t helping. I know you’re pissed off. You’ve got plenty to be pissed off about. But there’s a time and a place for everything. You don’t win arguments by berating the fence-sitters. You win arguments by being more intelligent, more humorous, more clever, and more even-tempered than your opponent. It doesn’t matter who’s right and who’s wrong. The person who starts shouting first is the one the audience turns on. At the end of the day, **Mockingbird** , I’m on your side, whether or not you like it. I support your rights, and I will do everything I can to see that you get them. But I can’t condone your tactics. They’re counterproductive. So my advice would be: Lighten up. Take the fabled “Chill Pill.” Stick to being funny, clever, and smart, and save the ranting for later. ---

I don’t think some people understand the restraint that we confirmed heterosexists often employ in making posts. Frex, I was over in the thread on “Who Will Bush Pick To Replace Sandra Day O’Connor?” And I toyed briefly with pointing out the obvious: that he should pick the female judge with the biggest rack and the most bodacious bootay. Possibly this might require a wet T-shirt contest for all the candidates. But I realized that in doing so, I would stifle all debate, and thus kill the thread, because all the heterosexist posters there would immediately realize that I was totally right and there was no point in arguing with me on that point. So I didn’t, in the interests of continuing the debate. Please, no need to thank me. The knowledge of my own goodness is enough. ---

I think perhaps Mockingbird was more speaking of **heterocentrism** , which is the notion that straights tend to _subconsciously_ believe that everyone else is straight. As in, “Hey, everyone will love a good joke about tits!” Heterosexism is as you described – believing heterosexuality to be the only valid sexuality. Or maybe he _was_ referring to heterosexism, I’m not quite sure. ---
