# You lying bastards! I hate advertisers!

So I put a fair bit of sugar in my tea, hey, I like it that way.
Of late, I have been purchasing Demerara for my tea and really liking it. Demerara is made from pure cane sugar, the least processed sugar, and the healthiest, not to be confused with brown sugar, though similar in colour.
Well, of course, my grocery store immediately stops carrying it ! Bastards.
After checking for three weeks, I get my SO to stop at a second grocery store so I can puchase this product. I am pleased to see that they stock it, and I purchase 3 bags. It’s not going to go bad and I will use it.
So, I’m wondering why it doesn’t taste quite the same as the other product I was using. I look more closely at the bag today and what does it say?
In huge letters it say, “Demerara”.
In much smaller letters, underneath this it says, “style brown sugar”.
Rat bastard weasels, and I bought 3 bags.
How do they get away with shit like that?
I know I should have looked more closely but it was labelled, Demerara, and I was in a bit of a rush.
Advertisers are bastards.

Well, if it’s any comfort, I had a British cookbook that just listed Demerara as a type of brown sugar (the other types were soft brown and dark brown). They’re all made of the same stuff.

Try turbinado sugar, such as “Sugar in the Raw” brand. It’s probably the same as the Demerara sugar you were using, but it’s not from Demerara (Guyana), as all Demerara sugar is SUPPOSED to be. Turbinado is a raw sugar as well, leftover from the cane after molasses is extracted.
The store should be happy to take the unopened bags of counterfeit sugar back, as well.

If you took them to court, you might have a case. Even if they think they are covering their asses by printing “-style brown sugar” in small letters beneath the logo, it could still very well be considered deceptive advertising.
(Recalling the old “100% Pure Beef-brand pork entrails” deception.)
