> Johnson Space Center is some distance from downtown Houston. While in my city, consider [The Museum of Natural Science](http://www.hmns.org/). Dinosaurs! The Museum District includes the [Children’s Museum](http://www.cmhouston.org/), plus the Zoo.

Houston really has some kickass museums and zoo. I still have my Camp Zoofari shirt. And the theater district is pretty rocking too.

> Also consider the Texas Renaissance Festival which is up and running for the season. It is the largest ren-faire in North America. It is massive and a real cut above the many of the smaller and cheesier versions found elsewhere. Its location in the middle of a dense pine forest gives it a special ambiance. It is loads of fun for a family. Again though, it is also located about an hour to two hours drive from center city so you’d be looking at a half day at least.

I’m glad you mentioned that because I never would have thought of it, but it’s something I can’t recommend enough. Renfest is awesome. Real “fun for all ages” kind of event, the kids love it, it appeals to the parents, and the college kids really love it too. Hard not to have fun at Renfest.

> If you’re going to make a side trip to Austin, go visit the [Texas State Capitol building](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_State_Capitol). I’m pretty sure they still give tours and it’s just really cool. It’s HUGE(largest state capitol in the country) and really brings a sense of grandeur to those government lessons at school.

Grab some lawn chairs, some Shiner (the Official Brew of the Republic), and sit out by the Congress Ave Bridge and [check out the bats](http://www.austincityguide.com/content/congress-bridge-bats-austin.asp). It’s pretty cool.

> Dallas: Dealey Plaza, State Fair, and the World Aquarium. That last one was a huge surprise. I wasn’t expecting such an extensive rain forest.

Isn’t it cool? We’ve been three or four times and it’s always a blast. Your photos look like you had a great time.

Ft. Worth is one of the oldest cities in North Texas, and it still has that feel. The streets downtown are mostly one way because it was a major staging area for beef shipments from the outlying ranches, and you just can’t drive cattle two directions at once.

Did you go see the Michelangelo?

Enjoy,
Steven

If you chance to meet Bob Knight, be polite. He has a short fuse.
