To all those growing tomatoes in you backyard gardens…fuck off.

My ex-wife did this. My current girlfriend does this. Why is anyone’s guess.

\*\*Better tasting tomatoes? \*\*Marginal. I doubt you could prove they were better in a blind taste test than anything from a corner stand…or even good grocery stores. You are kidding yourself.

**Cheaper tomatoes?** Again, fuck off. They are massively more expensive. From the special soil to the stakes (especially if you forgo the old-fashioned wood stakes) and beds and enclosures and lets not even get into your labor.

I am not impressed that you lovingly grew tomatoes.

I know I probably sound like a shill, but I pick up MeTV. They run Kotter four nights a week. I just watched that episode a few days ago. It was the one in which Boom-Boom makes the basketball team and he thinks he’s entitled to slack off on his schoolwork as a result, so Kotter challenges him to a pickup game.

When my ankle was FUBAR, I was also chasing a little one, and spent a few days before the MD visit on crutches. My solution to getting anything done was using the desk chair. (Since we didn’t have a handy wheelchair - at the time.) I’d roll around the kitchen to scrounge up meals, and then for tasks where I had to stand, I used the chair as a knee scooter - bend the leg on the injured knee, put the knee in the chair, and roll around the house. Way handier than crutches!

(I was first sent to the DocIntheBox, where I waited around several hours to get X-rays, and then had a 15-minute lesson on how to use crutches. Then they put me into a soft surgical boot - basically a foam and velcro sneaker - and sent me on my way. Needless to say, [this](http://www.alimed.com/canvas-post-op-shoe.html) didn’t do a damned thing to help my ankle, so I went home and dug [one of these](http://www.braceandsupportblog.com/category/walking-boots/) out of the Shrine to Klutziness that I call a closet. When I got to the ortho a couple of days later, the doc started describing the type of footwear he’d prescribe for me. I pointed to corner and asked “you mean like that?” “Exactly!” It turns out that I was probably fortunate to have had such a device handy. I had a Grade III sprain and broken cuboid, but stabilizing it pretty immediately helped avoid worsening the injury while I waited for my appointment. There’s really no practical way to have a little one at home and stay completely off one’s feet unless you’re already equipped with mobility devices.

The facebook page for my subdivision is full of childish, pent-up, alcoholic, bullying whiners. They currently have a 100+ post thread going right now, complete with folks starting up another page and flouncing out in full drama mode because someone reported their pets’ facebook pages. The pages these psychos were using to hijack and bully other members of the page.

I don’t know who did it, but kudos to them.

It scares me a little that the majority of these folks are active or retired military/law enforcement.

You gave me this advice when I had my foot surgery. Best advice ever. Thank you so much.

When I took Buttercup to the dog park, there was a lady with a very vicious little barky dog standing by the entrance to the big dog park. She thought it was funny that her little dog was lunging at the big dogs and that the big dogs were flinching away. I yelled at her because her dog tried to bite my dog and she told me that her dog wouldn’t hurt mine even if she let the leash go, so I went into the park and joined the group of people complaining to the “ranger”.

The police ushered her away before her dog got chomped, but dang. Why would anyone do that?

In other news, Lucky managed to get stuck in the trash can again. He must have done it between the time that Karen left and we got home because she would have fished him out and put him in a carrier. Washing garbage covered cats is not in her job description.

It’s a certain time of month for me, and I find myself again wondering how the human body can be capable of so much pain. A local comedian called it “shark week,” comparing it to being bitten by a shark. I don’t know how a male comedian was able to describe it so accurately.

I open up my gmail this morning and there’s one of those promotional emails from Photobucket with the subject line “Call your mom.”

My mom died seven years ago. Fuck you Photobucket.

Then I get into work and try to fix a couple of problems. Something then pops up that causes a whole new problem. I get yelled at for it when my manager comes in. If the other manager had been working today (as he should have been), I would not have been yelled at for it.

You know what? I don’t care whose life I make difficult today. Everyone can suck it.

Today is the last day in this office. On Monday, we will start working in a new building with…hot desks! Because anyone can work anywhere! And having an impersonal workspace with no personal items will be so much fun! Oh, and there are 1.3 people to every desk! That’ll be fine! And packing up your stuff each night, storing it in a locker, and unpacking it in the morning won’t be a waste of time at all! Can’t wait!

I don’t know about ‘lovingly grew’ but I just plant them, put a coffee can or cage around them and leave them alone. I’ll pull weeds once in a great while and once in a greater while I’ll water, but I generally just leave the garden the hell alone and get much, much produce. I don’t really understand these people that are messing around in their gardens constantly.

And home-grown is too better than store-bought. 😃

I have to ask: What’s management’s rationale for this? At a company I used to work for, they had a similar situation for some workers, but people ended up just “staking their claim” and while you _could_ claim someone else’s space, it was generally considered “bad form.”

The reason that company did it was b/c they offered the option to work remotely, and so designating / assigning desks & workspaces didn’t always make sense, if a worker was going to be in the office one day per week.

> This is fucking ridiculous. Local libraries have evening and weekend hours. So do banks, pharmacies, restaurants, bakeries and most other businesses around here. I can even get a new pair of glasses on a weekend or go the DMV. I often work weekends and later at night. Why can’t a doctor have reasonable hours that meet the needs of working people? I have to wait over a week in pain to get this looked at because the fucking doctors won’t work past four in the afternoon.

I have the same question about mechanics. I need work done on my car, I don’t want to take off from work. my company gets irritated if I take off from work without a months worth of notice and setting up everything in advance etc. What am i supposed to do.

The same with getting tags for my car, i do have one option I can get up really early and drive across town hoping that no one else has gotten up early to the one clerks office that opens early to still make it to work on time.

I found a dentist that is open early hours a few times a month. Clearly this is very popular becasue the next cleaning appointment was 2 months out.

I am already out of sick leave for the year due to doctors apppointments and am not going through my vacation time. which doesn’t even get to the Drs office that when I arrived after taking the last of my sick leave told me “oh we don’t do that procedure on Wednesdays and never this late in the afternoons.” So now I have to take another freaking day off to have this done. and oooh they told me I could have the procedure in the afternoon but I would not be able to eat more than a piece of toast between midnight and 1pm appointment. 1) i don’t eat toast becasue of the carbs (diabetic) 2) who eats 1 piece of toast and isn’t starving 6 hours later?

Just wondering - is your position open early/late/weekends? Because usually the reason why doctor’s offices and the like are open standard business hours is because **that’s standard business hours**. Because those employees have to get home to pick up their kids, or would really rather not work weekends/late/super-early.

But in the marketplace, wouldn’t a company that catered to it’s customer’s needs have an advantage? If you knew of a garage that was going to be open when it was convenient for you to drop off your car, wouldn’t THAT be the garage that got your business?

Does your business open early or stay open late for your customer’s convenience? If not, why not? You think every other business has to, so why doesn’t yours? It’s a vicious circle, about the only business that has convenient hours for everybody is one that is open 24 hours.
