I thought they all do that… at least, they do in Illinois and Iowa. Huh.

Nope! That’s what makes them so easy to spot in California.
Most of the plaques I’ve seen have been from “The Midwest” (which to a native Californian includes anything east of the Rockies and west of New York ;)) and places like Oklahoma and Texas. I didn’t notice any in Washington (state), but then I was the out-of-stater and was busy wondering why people drive so freakin’ slow there. I agree with Yosemitebabe that I would insist that any new car I bought would not have the plaque.
It’s easy to spot the Nor’Easterners down for vacation, besides having a fish-belly white complexion, it’s when they ask directions for “da shore” when they’re on their way to the beach.
I try to avoid the sun. I’ve lived with it all of my life, and I’m tired of it. Besides, I look dashing in a flight jacket!
So I don’t have much of a tan. I was in Hoquiam, WA visiting a friend. We were in a diner and she introduced me as her friend from California. The owner said she could tell I wasn’t from Washington by my tan!
