I’ve honestly never heard that but, then again, I’m one of those stereotypical geeks that really doesn’t have friends. It’s okay, though… I have my life size cardboard cutouts of various Trek characters to keep me company.

OK…you DO realize that the Cubs, Pirates, Steelers, Blackhawks, Nets, etc. actually exist and that Kirk, Picard, Wookies, “The Force”, etc. are fiction, right?

Just checking…

So where do TMBG nerds fit into this scheme?

While I sympathize with your unfortunate experiences, let’s be honest here: sports didn’t make your life miserable, a psychotically abusive father did. Had he been a professional musician in his youth, he’d have had you practicing scales and blowing 32nd notes until your lips and fingers bled, and it wouldn’t be because music was evil, it would be because he was. The only difference would be that you’d be here telling us that music sucks and ruins children’s lives.

Woo-wooooo!

I’m so glad someone picked up on that. I feel like less of a nerd. No, no, I feel like a greater nerd. We’re bonding. You feel this, **Eonwe**? This is what it feels like when doves cry.

(And did you know that Kirk’s middle name was originally Maurice and not Tiberius? Honest.)

Gee then what did the R on his tombstone in “Where no man has gone before…” stand for… oh crap I’m sad.

Balle\_M way to dodge the point.

Read the OP again and please read allowed the part about fictional space ships. Now look at the behaviours I mentioned and be objective. Where am I completely wrong here?

Speaking of real… How many Sports fans yell at their TV during a bad play?

You do realize the people on the set can’t hear you, right?

Well said! Really rabid sports fans do come off as really weird. But, much like Star Trek fans, there are different levels.

If you just watch Star Trek once or twice a week and know who the stars are, you are likely an ordinary person. Same with baseball, if you catch an evening game on TV, occasionally go to a game, and know who are the star players. If you try to watch every Star Trek episode, or if you watch baseball every night, move up another nerd notch. If you read Star Trek novels, or badly ghost-written autobiographies of baseball players, move to the next level. If you like to dress up as Klingons, or paint your face in team colors, you are becoming a supernerd. Still nothing too weird (at least for me) unless you bore everyone else with your hobby.

If you paint your oversized belly and show up for the game, I give you points for courage, but you are leaving nerd-dom and entering dork-dum. If you get your picture on the front page of the newspaper crying over it you have crossed over into geekdom.

This is a reply bo Balle\_M. I place the post here because now I am getting into the weird zone for baseball fans. This is the point where people I have known quit being sociable beings. Yes, sports team actually exist, But some sports fans take it to a higher, fictious level, and create their own fantasy leagues. Some use this as a form of gambling, so for a few there is a potential monetary reward. But for most, it is pure escapism.

Those I have known who are into this are much weirder than Trekkies. But that may just be me.

_paint if you will, a picture,
of Kirk and Picard fighting, with their all
noone can guess the outcome
of such an exciting, and powerful Trek brawl!_

Ok, so, I was about to ask for a cite for the Maurice thing… then my brain turned on…
