The OP says he lives in “Obama Country”, which is where they want gas to become much more expensive (just don’t raise the prices so fast that the public starts getting upset).
Okay, I thought it was tank size (not quite the same).
That’s the case with Indiana and the South Side/Suburbs.
The gas prices are anywhere from 5-20 cents cheaper per gallon in Indiana than Illinois (outside city limits, inside city limits, you could easily see a 25-30 cent difference).
Unless you’re right over the border though, it rarely makes sense. My truck has a 30 gallon tank and gets about 13MPG give or take. If I fill up in Indiana, I save about $6. If I drive to Indiana, I spend about $4.50. Not at all worth it.
Now, if Mexico was closer, you can bet your ass I’d be swingin on over there every chance I got with everything I could store gas in packed in my truckbed.
Not for nothin’ but if Mexico can get their fuel for 2.25 and we’re still paying $4 plus, where the hell are WE going wrong?
ISTR that Mexican fuel is subsidised. So part of the cost is going onto the national budget. Whether they’re running a deficit, I don’t know.
So there are no problems with customs or other tax enforcement agencies?
My sister lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and would sometimes drive across the border to fill up on cheap US gas. They’d just say they were going across for shopping; I seem to recall that there’re a couple of outlet malls in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. But in her case, the two cities are side-by-side. It’s not like they were driving down from Wawa or even Batchawana Bay for cheap gas.
Yeah, I was just using tank size - 1 as an estimate for how much she’s filling up.
Let me also pit the idiots who join Facebook groups such as “15,000,000 for lower gas prices” or anyone who uses it for “lazy activism”. I’m 25…I’m too young to be yelling at kids (or people older than me) to get off my lawn and actually do something to solve your problems instead of heading online to sign a petition.
With 15000+ posts here, that goes without saying.
Hi, Pot, nice shade of ebony!
(No, seriously, you’re right. I’m so freaking lucky to be a stay at home mom right now. And today, I don’t even have any kids, 'cause they’re all at Grandma’s! I think my ass might be permanently stuck to this chair, however…)
As it becomes more popular I bet they gov’t tries to crack down on it. Even if percentage wise it is a mere drop in the tank. IIRC here in WA there were people in the eastern part of the state going over to Idaho to get cigarettes because they were much cheaper and the State of WA threw a hissy fit because they were losing out on the taxes.
