Im sorry. I CAN’T be the only one. When I hear this song ( as I just did) I STILL add these lines to the chorus. “You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.” and I addd " you bitch, you slut, you whore. You suck, you swallow, you love it." Is it just me? Is my delequent college education shining through? Or do y’all do the same thing? ---

Well, until last weekend, I had never heard those additional lyrics. Went to the piano bar with fellow SDMBer xploder, and the guys did that version, but without the “you suck, etc.” Now I _know_ I’ll never be able to hear that song again without thinking of those lyrics. So no, dave, you’re not alone. 😃 ---

That’s weird Dave…I am listening to Micheal McDonald, his song “Hey Girl” about his woman leaving him. Sorry, that was jsut too weird to see this thread at the same time as a lyric as that. Or I could just be drunk, which is a normal thing. ---

actually, I’ve also heard that from a local one man band (Donn Dowland aka “dirty Don”), although in his version, it goes on, and on, and on and on… he also does the opposite sex version “you picked a fine time to leave me Louie”… great guy. (Donn) If you’ve ever got a chance to see him (usually plays around MI, but has gone as far as Vegas), do it. ---

Never heard the “Lucille” song as you describe it, but I was in a bar/restaurant in northeast PA when the regulars started singing along to “Sweet Caroline”: “Sweeeeeet Car-o-line… **F** \*\*\*- **IN’** - **SLUT!!!** Good times never seemed so goooood…” Damn near choked on my sandwich. ---

I was in high school when Billy Idol’s version of “Mony Mony” was the Hit O’ The Day. There’s a relatively long pause in between lines in each verse, and every teen in town would fill it in the same way: “Here she comes now singin’ Mony, Mony” **(HEY! HEY YOU! GET LAID, GET F\*CKED!)** “Murmble murmble meep-somethin’ that rhymes with Mony” **(HEY! HEY YOU! GET LAID, GET F\*CKED!)** …and so on. What can I say, in those days f\*ck was still a bad word. I can’t remember the real lyrics, but the last time I heard the song on the radio my brain still insisted on filling in the gaps. ---

Flodnak, I’ve heard that one too. FWIW, I was once at a health club where all these old ladies were doing arobics to that song, and they all shouted out “get laid get fucked” at the apropriate time. ROFLMAO! ---

Seems one night, Mr. Stewart got arrested for soliciting a hooker. A \*\* transvestite \*\* hooker. (I guess they hadn’t gotten very far.) A transvestite hooker named “Lucille”. And, upon first encountering his teammates after this incident, they serenaded him with “You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.” Anyway, that’s the first thing I think of when I hear that song. The second thing is how I originally misheard that lyric “four hundred children…” (instead of “four hungry children”). ---

I’ve just been on a jaunt this morning to try to find the origins of singalong parts to songs like “Sweet Caroline” and “Lucille.” I remember going to see this one man band in San Jose in 1985… guy’s name was Frank Joseph and he did both of those. He claimed to have invented the Lucille parts, but it was a little different than the one cited here. I don’t remember it exactly, but it started with “you bitch, you slut, you slime-sucking whore” and finished with “you make me sick!” I went back a few years later and he expressed chagrin that other people had been stealing his bit. ---
