Mainly why I come up with some reason to avoid them and get away to someone with more sense to chat with.
It is fun reading CT online, and watching it on TV [we like to talk back at the ones on TV.] We will even hop online and check out stuff while watching just to have ammo to snark back at the TV with. Sort of a spectator sport. My absolute first understanding of the odder CTs was way back when I was probably 13 and I had found a really neat book at auction in a box of estate sale goodies by some British guy who liked walking in the British Isles and noticed that there were really good straight level paths between ancient sites … things he named ley lines … and then I got into reading some of the midcentury modern occult books where ley lines suddenly became mystical magnetic occult twaddle. It was seriously fun to point out to these idiots that they were misinterpreting the idea. It actually got me into geology to a minor degree looking into magnetic north and magnetic lines in the crust. [Anything that gets a kid interested in hard science instead of twaddle is good in my eyes.]

The fact that Discovery channel and History channel run all sorts of crap shows that just end up in the wheel house of CT fans makes ignorance fighting even tougher.

It isn’t about ego stroking, it is about trying to help someone see their error. If I was spouting nonsense I appreciate being corrected if I am factually wrong.
I’m not talking about personal insults either.

Few feel this way. It’s mostly resentment at being made to look like a fool in public then devolving into, ‘well, you have your facts and I have mine’. A person thoughtful enough to change his mind when presented with sound data wouldn’t be the one spouting CT crap to begin with.

Pretty good man. How are you? Did you catch me in Mr. Allens movie last year, Blue Jasmine? It was a lot of fun. Working with Mr. Allen, Alec Baldwin and Cate Blanchett was amazing. Such great people man.

Conspiracy theorists never understand how crazy they sound. A fellow student in Hawaii was one, and he was also working full-time as a state official. Or maybe he was taking a leave of absence to further his studies, not sure now. But he was a nice, amiable guy, very friendly. Seemingly normal until you got to know him, then you started hearing all these little theories of things he’d noticed that indicated the state government was doing all these little experiments on the citizens. Really weird. And he had lots of them. It all made perfect sense to him.
