You skipped class for that!

I skipped all my classes one afternoon (in high school, I’m not in college yet) to go with my friends and climb up into the crawlspace above the gym and the auditorium.

It was dark and dusty and it made me sneeze.

I took a 300-level psych course (elective) called “drugs and human behavior”. I went to class only for review sessions and to actually take tests, and got an A.

Hey, that’s a darn good reason. “Cliffhanger” rocks!

I also found that substantial breaks between classes usually resulted in my missing one or the other. Like if I had one that finished at 1:30 and my next was at 3:30, I’d either miss the first one and come in late or leave early and miss the second one.

I had a National Security class last semester, three days a week at 8 in the morning. VERY easy to wake up and go “ugh. no class. sleep now.” I probably skipped that section about a half dozen times, total - which would have been twice the amount needed to attendance-fail, but the same prof taught another section of the same class at 9:30, which saved my ass quite a few times.

Like others here, I’ve skipped class due to rain - my first semester, I had a public speaking class early in the morning that was a 15 minute walk from my dorm. On a cold, rainy day, that’s just too damn depressing.

I’ve skipped class to finish papers for other classes.

Most interesting skip, though, was probably the time I skipped my writing class in order to go to a lecture by Ambassador Chad Freeman, ambassador to Saudi Arabia during the gulf war. I just flat-out told my teacher that “I’m a political science major. I HAVE to see this. It’s more important than this class.” That might be why I only got a “B” in that class.

Not a skip, but some real class-related stupidity: at the end of this school year, I decided it would be really awesome to smoke a blunt with my friends before they went home for the summer. This was at about 1 in the morning, 7 hours before my national security final. I still got an A.

I skipped all my classes the day Zelda:Wind Waker was released.

I had to take the bus to get to the mall to pick up my copy, and since I was going to miss my afternoon classes as a result of picking up/playing the game, I figured I might as well forget about my morning class as well.

Roomate: You’re still playing that game?

Slight Hijack: How many people here have ended up finished papers late because Star Wars was on TV?

raises hand

How many have finished papers late because of this thrice-damned board?

raises hand

How I avoid flunking, I dunno. Maybe I’m magic or something.

I’m going into my fifth straight year, and I most likely will have one year left after that. I think I’ve become a professional student.

I once skipped a class that I had gotten to school two hours earlier for (I don’t live on campus, don’t drive, and the school is on top of a big assed hill, so I got a ride with a friend who was going up earlier). Did I go to class?. Nope. The book I was reading had gotten to a really good part, and I didn’t want to stop.

Heh. I used to skip my film class all the time to… go to the movies. Seriously - my school (Georgia State) had one of those movie theatres where admission is free with a student ID, so I’d find out what was playing there and what we were watching in class and go to the more exciting of the two.

Ahhhhh… good times!

I’ve skipped for all sorts of rather mundane reasons. There are two that stand out, though. Once, a friday night run to In and Out for hamburgers turned into a road trip to Las Vegas. After much drinking and debauchery we decided it wasn’t worth hurrying back for monday classes.

My favorite reason for skipping my 10am poli sci class was talking to the naked guy on my balcony. Ben and his roomates were our next door neighbors and our places essentially shared one big balcony. Imagine my surprise when I went out to water the plants and found a cute nekkid guy all served up on a towel. I feigned non-chalance and he turned out to be more fun than any stinky poli sci lecture. I still have only a rudimentary grasp of the workings of our political system thanks to mornings with the nekkid guy.

– Family Feud is on (I have a wierd thing with FF; if I come across it, I have to watch. Missed a few classes that way).

– Just got some pot, and the cafeteria’s serving fried chicken.

– My roommate finally went out and I haven’t jerked off in three days.

– Because I’ve missed 6 weeks, a test, and three papers already, and I have to have some of the work done (as a show of good faith) before I can show my face again.

Oh, and, of course. . .

– That ####### in GD completely misrepresented my argument, and I have to set the record straight.

####, sorry. I forgot that ####### NetNanny is on.

You had one of those trips too, huh? We went out for ice cream one Thursday night in Western MA, got “lost” and wound up in Maine.

Lovely weekend- went horseback riding and had lobster and went shopping and everything.

During my second year, I would skip my incredibly dull and boring thermodynamics lectures to go and sit in a local coffee place with my best mate. The lecture ran from 11-12, and then I had a 2 hour gap before supervisions. So, we used to sit in the coffee house from 11 till about 2, drinking coffee, and eating nice sandwiches, talking about everything and anything. It was fantastic.

Damn I miss those days :frowning:

I did have to run to class several times (and was tardy more than once) because of The Sims. How can I leave before I see if my family of soldiers by day/geishas by night manages to get those promotions they need to finally pay off the bills and buy a hot tub?

I can’t tell you how often games have made me miss class.

“Hmm, I can go in to Government today…or I can get to level 24…”

I skipped the last six weeks of my microeconomics class because I couldn’t understand the teacher.

I also skipped the last 6 weeks of my statistics class because the class was at 6pm and I was sick of uni by that time.

Both of those classes had a 50% pass rate, but I still managed distinctions.

Continuing the hijack…

Just this past May i finished my Bachelor’s degree. It took me 8 years. As a mitigating factor I was working full time for the last 5 years of the degree.

I skipped classes for sex capades

I skipped Calculus pretty frequently, because I’d already taken it in high school and was bored. Also, I failed a class once because I decided to drop it but never filled out the proper paperwork. The teacher knew I was gone, but admin never figured it out.
